“Your hair’s so silky.”
“You’ll make me vain.”
“You deserve to be.” I started brushing his locks in long, gentle strokes. The same instinct that
had told me not to push my luck earlier pinged again, though, and so I went back to the former subject: “Historical-era Marry, Fuck, Kill. Or if you’re not into marriage, fucking, or murder, we could change one of those to ‘befriend’ or even—”
“Marriage, fucking, and murder are cool.” Rocco sounded amused. “Well, okay, no, murder is not cool, but for the purposes of a game, sure. Where to first?”
I started finger-combing idly as I considered. “You said eighteenth century. Let’s do that first. Lemme think… Okay, got it: Mozart, Marie Antoinette, Ben Franklin.”
“Fuck Ben Franklin—heard he was an old perv,” Rocco replied immediately.
“Totes.”
“Murder Marie Antoinette, because fuck the monarchy.”
“Zero sympathy,” I agreed.
“Marry Mozart. To be in the presence of a genius, right?”
“He sounds high maintenance, but I’d probably pick the same.”
Rocco chuckled.
I realized I wasn’t actually doing anything but playing with his hair, even if he wasn’t complaining. I should probably do something about that—
He cut into my internal monologue with, “I got an idea. I just gotta check some dates.” Thankfully, Andrew had smuggled him that burner phone after all, once he’d made Rocco promise to use it only for general web surfing. It didn’t have any money on it, so it was basically a wifi-only iPod.
I smiled and started applying some hair gel to sections and combing it through carefully. After a few seconds, he said, “William Wallace, Genghis Khan, Eleanor of Aquitaine,” he said.
“Wait, which one was she?” I asked.
“Queen of England, married to Henry II. Her kids were Richard the Lionheart and Bad King John.”
“Oh, Katherine Hepburn in The Lion in Winter,” I said.
“Exactly!”
“Obviously marry Eleanor. Amazing,” I said. “I love a fierce lady who fucks up her kids that hard.”
“Right on,” he replied.
“Ummm…fuck Genghis Khan. That’d be a wild ride. No, wait, I can’t murder William
Wallace. Scotland would hate me. This is a hard one.”
He laughed, and I realized that was exactly why he’d done it. “Think of it as Mel Gibson.”
“Okay, yeah, we’re murdering Wallace.” I asked, “What era is this anyhow?”
“High Middle Ages,” he replied.
“Fancy.”
“Thank you, Wikipedia.”
“I got one,” I said, tugging at his hair to get it to lie down flat. I needed it to dry a little before I could tease it up. That had to be how to get the bouffant look, right? “Madonna, Janet Jackson, David Bowie.”
“Oh god, eighties, why?”
“Don’t tell Andrew you said that.”
“Okay, okay, uh…” He paused. “Marry Janet, fuck David, kill Madonna.”
“Really don’t tell Andrew that last part. Though he’d approve of the Bowie thing.”
“Who wouldn’t?”

“No one who saw Labyrinth.”

Peter “Penis” Caldwell (nickname bestowed courtesy of popular jock, Jackson Davis) didn’t necessarily have a lot of things going for him.
See “Penis”.
He attended high school in a small town that was as bigoted as it was boring. (Having the audacity to stand out was considered a major character flaw.)
He was maybe, sort of, a little bit (a lot) gay. Not that anyone knew that last one.

None of that meant, however, that Peter was prepared for the consequences when he is bitten by a giant wolf during a reckless night of teenage adventure.

Consequences that smack him right in the face when he is simultaneously saved and snatched by a (hugely-muscled, obscenely handsome)... mentally-imbalanced man who’s convinced that he’s a long-distance relation of Jacob Black. That’s right: werewolf.

Mr. Big and Bad claims Peter is one, too, now that he’s bitten him.

The only thing worse than being kidnapped by a crazy person? A crazy person who’s right.

Forced to adjust to pack life in a hidden society, Peter’s not sure what he longs to do more: throttle the man who’s bitten him and ruined his life so conclusively, or throw himself on Mr. Big and Bad’s ridiculously firm... lap.

Yeah, lap.

Excerpt

For the first time in his life, Peter realized that people had scents. He wasn’t referring to the funky smell that always followed around his history teacher, Mr. Herbert, or even the flowery perfumes that his mother often saturated herself in.

No, people had scents beneath all that.

Like his dad, who smelled a bit like worn leather, or his mom, whose natural fragrance more closely resembled lemons.

Not everyone had a pleasant aroma, however. Jackson’s smell, for example, was putrid – not unlike the stink of sour milk.

No one’s scent was overpowering, and Peter often only caught whiffs of people as they walked by – and that was only when he put his mind to doing so. It was when he spent a lot of time with people, like his parents, or even Scott, who smelled a little like freshly cut grass underneath his Axe body spray, that he really noticed it.

Peter sighed, forcefully pulling himself from his thoughts. He couldn’t be certain, of course, but none of the books his parents – mostly his mom – had bought for him and his older sister about puberty mentioned the strange ability to smell other people. (He knew because he’d wasted an entire half hour searching the section about body odor.)

Realizing that as he had daydreamed, the sun had risen (and the heat index along with it), Peter glanced down to discover he had sweat through his shirt. Yanking his ear buds out of his ears and stuffing them into his pocket along with his MP3 player, Peter began tugging his shirt off his head.

He probably should have stopped running to do it. But he didn’t.

Which was why, shirt blocking his vision, Peter completely missed the man who suddenly appeared in front of him. By the time he had yanked the shirt completely off, it was too late, and he collided full speed into him.

He didn’t even have time to brace himself. One second, he was running, and the next, he was practically ricocheting off the solid mass of the man’s chest, his body flying backwards. It was a battle to stay upright– a battle he was losing – until firm hands grasped his hips and righted him, allowing Peter’s equilibrium to return to him.

An embarrassed flush bursting across his cheeks, Peter quickly stepped out of the man’s grasp, finally getting a good look at him, and... oh.

Jesus.

He’d almost plowed down a god, or a half-god, or something, because there was no way it was possible to be that naturally good-looking without having a parent named Aphrodite.

The handsome stranger – the man was definitely a stranger, Peter would know if he had seen this particular face before – had perfectly symmetrical features. He had an attractive nose and strong jaw, and his face was framed by dark, disheveled hair, longer on the top than it was on the sides.

Not only was the man absurdly handsome, he was also tall (well over six feet), and judging by the way his shirt-sleeves bulged, he was positively covered in lithe muscle.

Which you are very rudely staring at, a voice in the back of Peter’s head pointed out. Unfortunately, jerking his eyes away from the display of tanned muscle only served as a reminder that Peter’s less-muscled body was also on parade.

“I-I wasn’t,” Peter stuttered, clutching his shirt to his chest like an old lady holding a rosery in church, “I mean, I was... and then you, and I... I’m really sorry!” he eventually managed to spit out.

Determined not to embarrass himself any further – because apparently people related to Greek gods made him a little tongue-tied – Peter directed his gaze to the ground.

“Are you alright?”

Half-expecting to have been ignored, or worse, laughed at, Peter was taken off-guard by the concern-laced question. (It didn’t help that it was asked in such a cultured timbre. Peter had no idea it was possible to be physically attracted to a voice until that very moment.)

Unable to resist, he allowed his gaze to flicker back up. And promptly froze.

Peter had been so preoccupied with the man’s handsome features earlier that he had somehow missed the most striking of them all: his eyes.

Framed by black lashes, they were an intense blue. Peter’s poetry-obsessed mother would have probably called them sapphire or cobalt or something equally fanciful. But their color wasn’t what had Peter’s entire body tensing.

No, that was due to the fact that the eyes were strangely familiar. Like Peter had seen them somewhere before.

Except Peter was completely certain he had never laid eyes on this man before.

For one hare-brained moment, he thought of the pair of eyes that had been haunting his dreams for over a week now. They’re the same, his subconscious all but screamed at him, they’re the same!

But that was ridiculous.

The eyes in his dream were red. And they belonged to a wolf. They weren’t blue and set in the face of a Michelangelo statue come to life. A statue that was currently frowning at him, a troubled crease in his brow. “Well, are you?”

Peter blinked. “Am I...?” “Are you alright?”

Oh.

That’s right.

The man had asked Peter a question, and instead of answering it like a normal person, Peter had just stared rudely.

Face burning, he half-wished the ground would open up and swallow him whole. “Yeah! Fine. Great. Dandy, even.” Dandy? What. the. hell. “It’s not like I fell or anything.” Although Peter wasn’t so sure he hadn’t somehow concussed himself by running into the man’s chest of solid muscle, what with his mouth moving without consent from his brain and all. “I mean, you stopped me before I could. Fall, that is. Grabbed me by the waist, which would usually be sort of creepy, in a bad-touch way, but, I mean, you’re obviously not... you wouldn’t... you know what? I’m just going to shut up now.”

By the time Peter had finished inserting both his feet firmly in his mouth, the man’s frown had increased in severity. He seemed confused.

You and me both, buddy.

After a moment, he just shook his head. “You should really watch where you’re going,” he said somberly.

Yeah, can’t be smacking into god-like entities every time I take my shirt off, Peter thought sarcastically. What he actually said was: “I’ll do that.”

“See that you do. You never know when you might run into... someone dangerous.”

For some reason, a shiver tingled down Peter’s spine at the remark. It wasn’t a scared shiver. Sure, the statement could have been threatening – Peter had just run smack into this man, after all – but somehow, it was something... else.

Peter found himself staring again, almost involuntarily, into the man’s eyes. Dark blue drilled right back into muted green. It was a staring contest Peter was desperate not to lose for reasons beyond his grasp.

Fuckingbedamned! Jackson’s eyes narrowed as he saw the flaring of Hunter’s nose. No fucking way! Flicking his gaze down, he found the telltale bulge confirming his suspicion. His cousin’s mate was one of his pack members. What the fuck do I do now? Jackson’s lingering suspicions about why Hunter had contacted him now after all these years assumed greater importance now. Not wanting to see who his cousin was staring at, he rolled out his Alpha power, just enough to bring Hunter’s attention back to him. “It’s been a long time, Cousin.”

Holy Fuck! How did Jackie do that? Force to look at his cousin, Hunter found himself unable to move. “Yes it has,” he replied. “I understand congratulations are in order.”

“Congratulations? What for?” asked Jackson.

“Becoming Alpha of the Blackwood Pack, of course,” Hunter answered.

Wondering how much his cousin knew, Jackson decided to ignore it. Instead, he asked, “Are you going to introduce your brothers to me?”

“Sure,” Hunter replied, anxious to know the name of his mate, continued, “However, that is quite a welcoming group you have for us considering you claim you didn’t know we were coming today. Do you mind introducing me to them first?”

Standing next to Logan on the porch, Kieran watched the unfolding scene of the two Alphas posturing, but suddenly his spirit spoke to him, causing him to run down the steps, towards Jackson.

“Babe! Wait! What are you doing?” called Logan, torn between following his mate or obeying Jackson’s orders to remain where he was. Fuck, fuck, fuck!

“Macushla, I’m needed! Don’t worry!” Kieran yell, sprinting towards the motorhome.

Asking their spirit what his mate was doing, Logan gasped, his jaw dropping. Not believing what he was told, Logan leaped off the porch, wanting to stop Kieran from entering the motorhome. “Wait, babe wait! Jackson, stop Kieran,” he shouted.

Hearing his brother’s instructions, Jackson turned his head, breaking eye contact with Hunter. A quick glance, Jackson realized why his brother had yelled at him when he saw Kieran was already opening the door of the motorhome. “Kieran, stop!” Jackson pushed more of his Alpha power out, commanding Logan’s mate to obey.

Now free of the control of Jackson’s Alpha power, Hunter followed his cousin’s gaze and saw someone was attempting to enter his motorhome. Not know who it was, he threw out his Alpha power and ordered “Stop now!”

Pausing as the power from both Alphas temporarily froze him, Kieran shook his head as his spirt broke him free of their hold. Wrenching the door open, he entered the motorhome and came face to face with three pairs of eyes, staring at him in astonishment. “Hi cousins, nice to meet you but if you don’t mind, can we talk later because I am needed.” Hurrying to the first door Kieran found, he popped it open, then said, “Hi there. Don’t you look fabulous! I love your dress but can we talk later. Thanks.” Closing the door, he hurried to the next one. Placing his hand on it, he knew this is where he was supposed to be. Quietly opening the door, he slipped inside. “Hi, don’t worry, I’m here to help…” he said, closing the door behind him.

“Who the fuck was that?” asked Sawyer.

“How did he know?” Robin asked.

“Oh shit,” Mason said, looking at the big shifter who just joined Jackson and Hunter. “This doesn’t look good.”

Stopping next to Jackson, Logan asked, “Why didn’t you stop Kieran?”

“Who’s Kieran?” asked Hunter, “And why did he break into my home?”

“Fuck you, asshole!” Logan snarled.

“Logan, stop,” Jackson ordered.

“Logan?” Hunter asked, astounded at how big his cousin’s twin was. The last time he had seen Logan, he was a skinny short kid.

“Logan, meet Hunter, our cousin,” Jackson said.

Giving his cousin an angry glance, Logan then turned back to his brother. “Bro, I need to speak to you—alone!”

At a loss for what the hell was going on, Hunter decided to retreat. “I understand. I’ll just be in there, finding out about who decided to invite himself into my home without permission, I might add.”

“You touch my mate and it will be the last thing you ever do,” snarled Logan.

“Your mate? That twink is your mate?” asked Hunter incredulously.

Seeing red at the implied insult of his mate, Logan began to shift, having had enough of his cousin and his attitude towards Kieran.

Glancing up at the motorhome, Jackson saw fear and anger in the faces staring back at him and instantly knew what would happen if he didn’t put a stop to the brewing conflict. Sending out his Alpha power at full strength, he waited until his brother and his cousins tilted their heads in submission. “Hunter, you are to remain where you are while I speak to my brother alone. Understand?”

“Yes, Alpha,” Hunter said. Feeling Jackson’s control, he stood still, watching his cousins walk away from him, smirking at their attempt to keep him from listening with his wolf hearing. Shifting his gaze, Hunter sought out the man on the porch who was tied to him by the Fates, wondering what his cousin would say when he took his Fated Mate back east.

Once Jackson felt he and Logan was far enough away from Hunter, he stopped and said, “Okay, what is Kieran up to now?”

Glancing over his brother’s shoulder, Logan made sure Hunter wasn’t heading to the motorhome before leaning in and whispering in his brother’s ear.

Jerking back, Jackson stared at Logan. “You’re wrong! It’s impossible!”

Shaking his head, Logan leaned in again, whispering again in reply to his brother’s disbelief.

Jackson’s face drained of color as the implications of Logan’s news became apparent to him. Turning, he faced the porch and zeroed in on Dakota, knowing the effect this news would have on him could affect his pup’s life. Turning back to Logan, Jackson murmured, “Are you absolutely positive?”

EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT

WHITE KNIGHT / Mary Rundle

Hi there, it’s exciting to be here and I have an exclusive excerpt today of White Knight, Book 8 in the Blackwood Pack series. The Fated Mates in this story are Fionn and Hunter, who can only find their HEA with the help of the Blackwood Pack!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Opening the door to the motorhome, Mac stuck his head in, calling, “Hunt?”
Hunter glanced at his brother over Mason’s shoulder. “Yeah, what’s up?”
“Good,” said Mac, clambering up the steps. After Maximus informed him Ian and Jackson agreed to him serving as the pack’s temporary doctor, it was time to tell Hunter. Sliding in next to Mason, he asked, “Where are Sawyer and Quin?”
“Last I knew, Sawyer was beating Zane in Rogue Wolf and Quin is doing something with Theo and Norm,” replied Hunter.
“In his bedroom?” Mac asked, jerking his head to the back of the motorhome.
“No, he’s in the pack house,” replied Mason.
“Quin? Really? Wow, that’s good to hear,” Mac said. “But I have to admit, I never would have guessed it would be bear shifters who’d bring our brother out of his shell.”
“Indeed,” Hunt chuckled. “So, why were you looking for me?”
“Uhmm…remember the job I accepted in New York?” asked Mac. After seeing Hunter’s nod, he continued, “Well, I found out yesterday that it’s not actually in New York City.”
“Okay, where is it?” asked Hunter.
“Here.”
“Here, where?” asked Mason.
“Here, with the Blackwood Pack…as their doctor…at least temporarily. Ian is pregnant and I’ll be filling in for him,” Mac said.
Hunter frowned. “You found this out yesterday and you didn’t think to tell me?”
“How come you didn’t know before yesterday?” asked Mason.
“Because all they said when I joined Frontline Doctors was one of their doctors was pregnant, so I’d be filling in for him during his paternity leave. All they told me was who I would be taking over for… a male omega by the name of Dr. Ian Wallace…but I never knew he was a member of Jackson’s pack.”
“He doesn’t like you,” growled Hunter.
Mac smiled. “According to Maximus, he’s changed his mind.”
“Who the fuck is Maximus?” asked Mason.
“He owns Dire Enterprises. Their medical division founded Frontline Doctors to help bring medical services to underserved shifter communities,” Mac explained.
“Why is it I always feel like I’m missing something?” Mason asked, shaking his head. “Let’s try this again. How does the Chairman of Dire Enterprises know Ian who, according to you, is just one of a bunch of Frontline Doctors?”
“Wait…you spoke to Maximus?” asked Hunter.
“Well, to be accurate, I met with him.”
“See there you go again…not making any sense,” Mason said. “When and where did this meeting take place?”
“In the pack house…just now. That’s why I was looking for you.”
“What is Dire Enterprises’ Chairman doing at the Blackwood Pack house?” asked Mason.
“He lives here along with his wife and two sons.”
“Mac, what the fuck is it with you? Why are you making me drag this out of you, piece by piece?” growled Hunter. “Who are his sons and why are they living here?”
Grinning at his brother’s frustration, Mac said, “I’m just relishing the one time I know something more about your world than you do.”
“Mac…”
“Okay, okay. Chill out. Jackson’s mate Steel is the CEO of Dire Enterprises and his brother Slate, is the COO,” Mac smirked. “Our cousin, Dakota, is Slate’s mate.”
“Oh, shit!” Hunter stared at Mason. Then he buried his face in his hands, mentally kicking himself for not having done further research. He and Mason had spent a year putting together a business plan which they’d submitted a couple of months ago, proposing their company, Beowulf Trust handle all Dire Enterprises’ investments worldwide. Admittedly, it was an audacious move, but one he and Mason agreed they could handle. Groaning, he thought back to breakfast and his conversation with Steel. How fucking stupid can I be? Of course he was familiar with the Valentin family…maybe ‘familiar’ wasn’t quite the right word…anyone in his field knew the name and yet at breakfast he never made the connection. Fuckingbedamned! I would have if I’d bothered to ask him what he did. All that work, wasted because his mind was focused on his mate…a mate who obviously didn’t want him. Can’t blame him…who wants someone who blows an opportunity because I didn’t do my homework.
“Hunter? Hey, you okay?” asked Mac, worried after listening to his brother’s groans.
“Hunt, it’s okay,” Mason said.
Slapping the table hard with his hands, Hunter’s eyes narrowed as he looked at his brother. “No, you’re wrong Mase. It is not okay. I fucked up big time. A fucking year of work…wasted…all because I couldn’t keep my head on straight. Now, how am I supposed to support my mate? He has a hoard…a fucking hoard! Fionn can probably buy anything he wants and what the fuck do I have to offer? If Dire Enterprises even gave us a tenth of their investments to manage, I’d have felt like we were in pig-shit heaven. But now…did you know Steel asked me at breakfast what I did, and I never made the connection? He fucking knew! But me…no I sat there like a fucking clueless asshole, pining for my mate…someone who fled from me. And can you blame him?” Taking a deep breath, Hunter lowered his voice. “No, Mase, no matter how you look at this, it is not okay.”
Mac stared at his brother, then shifted his gaze to Mason. “Hunt has a mate?”
“Had! I had a mate!” snapped Hunter.
“Yes,” Mason said. “Hunt’s mate is a member of Jackson’s pack.”
“Who is he?” asked Mac.
“Fionn! A fucking dragon!” Hunter snarled. “A mate who has a humongous cave filled with gold!”
“When did this happen?” Mac asked Mason, ignoring Hunter. “Did he know his mate was here?”
“No, Hunt found out yesterday when we arrived,” replied Mason.
“Then why is he claiming he had a mate?” asked Mac.
“Because he’s upset right now. Fionn is his mate,” Mason said.
“And Fionn has a hoard?”
Nodding, Mason said, “Hunt’s wolf is going a little crazy because Fionn took off for his hoard, but he’ll be back.”
“Will you two assholes stop talking as if I’m not here?” Hunter shouted.
Author Bio
Mary Rundle Logo - White Knight - Mary Rundle
The first book I ever wrote was Dire Warning in 2017 and, much to my delight, it became an Amazon Best Seller. Readers loved it and I was on my way to chronicling the Blackwood Pack, seven brothers who are gay wolf shifters in search of their fated mates– stories about love at first sight with twists and turns, angst and humor, romance and adventure and, of course, happy endings.
I love the M/M paranormal genre because it gives my imagination a lot of territory in which to roam. My mind can really run wild and come up with some amazing stuff when it doesn’t have to stay inside the box.
My readers tell me they feel like they’re a member of the pack as the stories unfold. As if they’re right there in the middle of the action. Others tell me it’s like watching a fast-paced movie. My writing style pulls no punches– readers love it and are always clamoring for the next book.
Stories come to me as if they were being channeled by my characters, all of whom I love (except for a few villains). They are eager to recount their lives, loves and adventures and are not inhibited when it comes to revealing steamy details.
I currently live in the Northeast and love the beautiful change of seasons, my husband, and our quirky calico cat, though not necessarily in that order. I’m always happy to hear from my readers and can be reached through Facebook, Twitter, MeWe, or my website.
Being a new member of the undead sect has its ups and downs, something that newly embraced Akio Lee is finding out first hand. Being able to spend eternity with his beloved Vincente, the man who introduced him to life in the nightside, is a definite up. Having to feed on strangers? That’s one of the downsides, and something that Akio is finding difficult to swallow. But what other option is there for a recently wed vampire couple who need blood to survive?
Finding a new donor perhaps? One who comes into the lifestyle willingly, as Akio had done, and is open to the unique and sensual relationship that develops when three men have a blood bond. A man who can exist in both the nightside and the dayside worlds. A man like Ian O’Keeffe, the handsome caretaker of the manse Akio and Vincente now call home? Ian seems to tick every box Akio and Vincente have—he’s comfortable around vampires, he’s obviously into men, he’s drop-dead gorgeous, he’s more than a little mischievous, and he’s human. Mostly.
But will the outgoing handyman be willing to offer two vampires his vein, his body, and his heart?
V.L. Locey loves worn jeans, yoga, belly laughs, Dr. Who, Torchwood, walking, reading and writing lusty tales, Greek mythology, the New York Rangers, comic books, and coffee. (Not necessarily in that order.) She shares her life with her husband, her daughter, one dog, two cats, two Jersey steers and a flock of assorted domestic fowl.
When not writing lusty tales, she can be found enjoying her day with her menagerie in the rolling hills of Pennsylvania with a cup of fresh java in hand.
Here Come The Son by Dahlia Donovan - Blog Tour with Excer[t and Guest Post
Here Comes the Son
Dahlia Donovan has a new MM urban fantasy romance book out: "Here Comes the Son."
When evil stirs in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains, heroes come in both ordinary and extraordinary packages.
Ignatius Faber knows a few things for absolute certain. He’s half-demon, his father is the unequivocal prince of darkness, and demons want to destroy his city. And if he doesn’t make the first move on his crush, they’re never going to be anything more than a teenage fantasy that’s lasted into his thirties.
Lalo Pavia grew up hard and fast, orphaned at a young age. As an autistic, he’s learned to approach life cautiously. He throws his energy into gardening and photography—allowing both to provide a buffer between himself and the rest of the world.
Except for Iggy.
Can they find triumph, life, and even love in the middle of a city in flames?
Their fight for the mile high city has just begun.
Here Comes the Son
Stowing both the journal and pen into his backpack, Iggy focused on the YouTube video playing on the library computer. The Siren. She was a beautiful, sultry vlogger who’d rapidly gained a cult-like following on her channel. No name, no history, no previous website. She’d sprung up from nowhere and catapulted to viral infamy.
Iggy hadn’t needed a cryptic dream warning him of another demonic invasion in his beloved city or the strange shiver up his spine to immediately put her onto his list.
The whir of the printer behind him drew Iggy away from the video as the hairs on the back of his neck stood up. His dark-brown eyes scanned the library slowly. He’d apparentlyrun out of time for research; somewhere in the city,a demon had come out to play.
Time to hunt.
Strapping on his bag, Iggy dragged a hand roughly through his short black hair. He winked at the librarian who grumbled at him when he leaped over a book cart in his path on the way toward the front entrance. She blushed, a response he was used to with his inherited looks and charm.
As one of his best friends from high school used to say, he had wickedly devilish good looks. He told her to stop reading Regencyromances. From his jet-black hair to his deep-brown eyes, he knew his face balanced the angelic with the roguish.
I’d do me.
Blinded by the bright sunshine, Iggy took a moment to adjust after stepping outside. Denver’s Central Library had always been a favoriteof his for research, with its massive collection. Plus, he always thought the building seemed almost like a grouping of castle turrets.
He paused on the corner of Broadway and Thirteenth Avenue. Spring was supposed to have sprung in the Mile High City. Not that the weather had noticed; they’d only just thawed out from winter.
And judging by the crisp air and gathering clouds on the mountains, they’d be inundated with another blizzard before the end of the day.
Jogging down Thirteenth, Iggy skidded to a halt on Lincoln. He tilted his head, trusting his finely honed instincts. Half a block down, he spotted an alley between a parking lot and the Art Institute that was shadowed more than it should’ve been in the bright early afternoon sun.
One step into the gap between the buildings, and he’d plunged into nighttime. The smell of sulfur swirled around him. He slipped his bag around his body, reaching inside for a spray can.
“Ah, Son of the Morning Star. Half-breed. I hoped you’d sense my presence.” Rastran stood at the end of the unnaturally dark alley. He leaned casually against the industrial air conditioner with one foot resting on a body, completely disregarding the dirt now staining his designer suit. Demons always enjoyed life’s luxuries. “Ignatius Faber, we’ve saved you for last. Your father’s brightest light. A beautiful irony. All of his hopes pinned on the one offspring who matched him most in appearance and strength. Pity he can’t see the monster he created.”
With a hardkick, Rastran sent the body rolling along the filthy ground to land barely a foot away from Iggy. Titus.One of his many half-siblings. Iggy hadn’t seen his brother in weeks. They’d all assumed Titus was on a hunt.
They generally kept in close contact, particularly since hundreds of other half-siblings had been culled over the past eight years. Titus and Iggy were the only ones left. Rage erupted deep inside him.
“I’m the monster?” Iggy calmly stepped over Titus, shoving grief and anger viciously down to remain focused. He had a demon to deal with. His fingers wrapped tightly around the canister of compressed holy water in his pocket. It resembled pepper spraybut worked to stun creatures of Hell long enough for him to send them home. “You should’ve stayed away from my city.”
Kicking a piece of brick at the demon, Iggy charged toward him, leaping over a dumpster. He caught Rastran in the chest with a kick, then doused him with the holy water. With the demon stunned, he swiftly dug the lighter from his bag and set fire to the expensive suit.
“Fuck off back to Hell.” Iggy stared intently at the brilliantly red flames rapidly burning the demon into nothing.
Flashy, fiery piece of shit.
Demons, as a species, seemed drawn to anything expensive or shiny. Titus had joked about their being the Kardashian brand of hellspawn. Iggy swallowed down his desire to both laugh and sob uncontrollably.
When the last bits of ash disappeared on a sudden brisk breeze, Iggy twisted toward Titus. With Rastran banished, lighthad returned to the alley. He didn’t have time to process his brother’s death.
His shoulders dropped with the weight of sorrow. A dead man in the middle of the city would draw attention Iggy didn’t need. He had no real explanation for how Titus had died.
Demons tended to kill without leaving a trace of evidence of their presence or method. Of their army of siblings, Titus had been the most dedicated to demon hunting. More than Iggy. Ironic, given fighting came a little too easilyto Iggy.
With no way to transport Titus, Iggy gently removed the rosary from his brother’s neck and fled the alley.He left no clues to his presence, making sure to avoid any cameras in the area. Catching a bus on Lincoln allowed him to quickly return to where he’d parked his vehicle earlier.
How long on average does it take you to write a book?
Tricky question. It depends on the book. I’ve been known to knock out a 50k novel in thirty days but then I’ve had a 30k novella take me almost three months to write. My muse (and my ability to concentrate) can be quite fickle friends.
Are you a full-time or part-time writer? How does that affect your writing?
Technically, I suppose I’m a full-time writer. I treat writing as an art but everything else to do with publishing as a business. It’s important to me to put every ounce of effort possible into being an author.
What were your goals and intentions in this book, and how well do you feel you achieved them?
My main goal was to get the story out of my mind. I’m a panster, so I rarely plot out a novel. I usually get an idea for characters and a story and then they eat away at my brain until I write it. So, I suppose I definitely achieved my goal.
Tell me one thing hardly anyone knows about you.
I wrote, produced, and directed a play when I was nineteen.
We know what you like to write, but what do you like to read in your free time, and why?
Aside from romance? I read a lot of cosy mysteries and non-fiction.  I love biographies, especially.
Would you visit the future or the past, and why?
I’d love to visit the Regency era to hang out with Jane Austen. But, I’d hate living as a woman during that time period. So, maybe in the future? I’m not sure. I do really wish I could sit and chat with Saint Jane. lol
What are you working on now, and when can we expect it?
I just wrapped up a fun novella called Pure Dumb Luck. I’m in the editing stage right now, and I believe it’s due out in September.  As far as actual writing, I’m diving into a holiday novella (even though I promised myself I wouldn’t write holiday stories in July again, sigh), it features a beloved couple from The Sin Bin, and I expect it to be out in November or December.
