Book synopsis:

When a plane crashes in the Alaskan wilderness, the best place to land is in the arms of a younger man…

Hotshot attorney Reuben Graham has finally agreed to take a vacation, when his plane suddenly plunges into the Alaskan wilderness.

Just his luck.

But his frustrations have only begun as he finds himself stranded with the injured, and superhot, pilot, a man who’s endearingly sociable—and much too young for Reuben to be wanting him this badly.

As the sole provider for his sisters and ailing father, Tobias Kooly is devastated to learn his injuries will prevent him from working or even making it back home. So when Reuben insists on giving him a place to recover, not even Toby’s pride can make him refuse. He’s never been tempted by a silver fox before, but something about Reuben is impossible to resist.

Recuperating in Reuben’s care is the last thing Toby expected, yet the closer they become, the more incredibly right it feels, prompting workaholic Reuben to question the life he’s been living. But when the pressure Toby’s under starts closing in, both men will have to decide if there’s room in their hearts for a love they never saw coming.

Excerpt

“Do you want to try to see bears or other wildlife when we land at Katmai? I know a good, safe trail that’s fairly easy, but it has a great chance of wildlife spotting.” Toby’s tone was encouraging, but not pushy. “The other option is for you to settle in early at the lodge, but with it being light so long, most people like a late dinner with a hike beforehand.”
“Hike sounds fine. And no need to slow yourself down on my account—choose a trail you like.” He forced an optimistic tone, because he didn’t want Toby thinking he needed easy options like some eighty-year-old. The same part of him that wanted to prove his doubters wrong wanted to impress Toby, but that urge carried with it an undercurrent of wanting to show off for the attractive guy, an urge Reuben hadn’t had in years.
“Hey, it’s your vacation.” Toby offered him a lazy smile, the sort that made Reuben’s insides feel decades younger. “But sure, I’ll show you some of my favorite vantage points. It’s not a short flight, so we’ll have plenty of time for exploring.”
Reuben liked the sound of that, especially since most of the next leg of the trip was over water with less scenery to distract him. However, Toby kept up a nice if crackly commentary, pointing out little dots in the water that were whales, and providing a history of the Katmai National Park and Preserve with its lava fields and unique landscape and the lakes and rivers of the region, and when they touched down on a lake, he’d almost sold Reuben on the idea of trying fly fishing in the morning as a not terrible endeavor. Apparently, the lodge had all the equipment they’d need for borrowing, and Toby’s enthusiasm was infectious.
“Now I’m really wishing Craig and Leticia had come,” Reuben joked as they came to a stop, before Toby had a chance to jump out. “Leticia with a fishing pole would be a sight worth seeing.”
“I bet.” Toby waited until he’d opened the hatches to speak again. “Wait till you have dinner—you’ll want to brag on that too. This is one of the best food stops on your trip, which is why we do two nights here. I let them know you’re a wine drinker, so the chef should have done some nice pairings for you.”
“Now that sounds wonderful. But first we hike?” While not exactly eager, Reuben had to admit he was falling into the rhythm of the trip more, less uncomfortable than he’d been at first.
“Yeah. They’ll take our luggage up to the cabins by ATV, and our hike will circle back to the main lodge in time for the dinner. There shouldn’t be too many other guests as it’s a fairly exclusive place.” Toby set their bags on the dock right as a young woman rode up on one of those squat motorcycle-like things with the fat tires, pulling a little cart.
“Hey, Toby.” She had a big smile for him and one for Reuben too. “We put your client in cabin four, near the sauna, and you’re in your usual one. Don’t be late for dinner!”
“We won’t.” Toby gave her a grin that made her cheeks go pink before he turned toward Reuben. “Your cabin has electricity and heat, and that sauna is totally worth a post-dinner try.”
“I’m not usually much on recreational sweating.” Reuben realized too late how that sounded, and Toby’s rich chuckle said that he’d caught the unintentional joke there.
“Well, that’s just too bad.” Toby’s tone might have been called flirty if they’d been in a bar, but out here just seemed like more of his natural charm. “Trailhead is this way.”

Blog Tour Q&A:

Do you find it more challenging to write the first book in a series or to write the subsequent novels?  ARCTIC WILD is book two in the Frozen Hearts series, and there is something about book two in a series that is definitely challenging! Beta Test, At Attention, and now this one were all unique challenges for me. Each book is its own challenge, though. Book One can be a challenge because you’re creating a brand-new world, all new characters, places, important themes etc. But in book two, you’re carrying that universe forward and you’re also limited by what you did in book one, and not just the obvious plot ways. The tone, length, themes, and pacing of book one absolutely affect book two as you try to make sure the series will be cohesive as a whole. And I’m sure it’s just me, but my book two of several series now have taken more intense rewrites to get the story exactly as I want it for my readers. But it’s work I love doing, and I love all the books in my various series!

What is the most surprising thing you discovered while writing this entire series? I loved all my research into Alaska. I discovered so many amazing details, many of which made it to the books, and others which ended up on the cutting room floor so to speak, but which still influenced the series. The research into the food was among the most fun for me, and not just menus, but food storage and preservation and seasons as well.

Who is your favorite character from the Frozen Hearts series? I loved all of the heroes in this trilogy so much. I think River from book 1 and Owen from book 3, who you’ll meet in September, were among the most fun POVs to write. Book Two, ARCTIC WILD, had my favorite secondary characters of the whole series, and I loved writing both heroes too.
Can you share with us something about Arctic Wild that isn’t in the blurb? The blurb is tightly focused on the romance between the heroes, but one of my favorite things about the book is the secondary characters. You’ll meet Toby’s sister, Nell, and Reuben’s daughter, Amelia, and a several other characters who I really enjoyed writing. Also? The blurb won’t tell you that there’s shower sex, but I totally will!

What is the key theme and/or message in Arctic Wild? To me, this book is all about family—the family we are born to, the family we form, and the family we find in unexpected places leading to unbreakable bonds. And love—love creates family, love heals old hurts, and love leads us unexpected places as it renders all those differences between two people irrelevant. I want the message to be that we can form family and find love even in the most trying of circumstances, even when we least expect it, and that family comes in many surprising packages.

A death that wasn’t what it seemed…
A kidnapping that isn’t what it seems…
Time is running out.

The morning after his wedding night, Prince Marcelo thought he’d be embarking on a journey to his own personal fairytale happily ever after with his husband, Efren, the crown prince of Zioneven. But when news arrives indicating his sister’s death wasn’t as accidental as previously thought, that journey becomes fraught with danger.

Enmeshed in political intrigue, death, and a kidnapping that might not be what it seems, will Efren untangle the web of misleading clues in time to save the naïve young man he’s already come to admire, or will Marcelo dig deep to discover a previously untapped inner strength and determination to facilitate his own survival?

Excerpt

Chapter 3: …Oft Go Awry

Efren

Efren blinked rapidly as he came awake with a start. He stared into the darkness and mentally shook the cobwebs from his mind. What had awoken him? Marcelo lay softly breathing in his arms, as relaxed and peaceful as only the innocent can truly be.

Around him, the night was silent. Too silent? He strained to hear the patrols rustling through the grasses, or the faint trills of their signals to each other.

A breeze swirled through the branches of the trees in the distance, rippling the leaves. Crickets chirped, apparently unconcerned about whatever either was or wasn’t going on in the meadow.

And footsteps. Quiet, approaching footsteps. It must be time for the shift change. That’s what had awoken him. Efren relaxed and nestled Marcelo tighter against him. One at a time, the guards would come in and wake their replacements.

Except—Efren tensed, then maneuvered his arm out from under Marcelo’s head and eased himself from under the blankets—the footsteps, furtively stopping and restarting, were approaching from multiple directions.

Efren shivered as goosebumps rose on his naked skin in the chilled night air and soundlessly slipped his broadsword and knife from their leather scabbard. He glanced at Marcelo, still sleeping, although less serenely with the sudden loss of the warm body next to him.

Guilt pinged his core as he shook off a strong desire to waken and forewarn Marcelo, but he pushed it down. Marcelo, completely untrained in warfare, would be safer in here. He seemed a heavy sleeper, likely incorporating outside noises into his dreams, unused to a need to be readily alert. He might even doze through the skirmish.

Or was that just wishful thinking? Because there’d be no hope that Marcelo could escape unseen, if it came to that.

Surely it would be better for such an innocent to be killed in his sleep, or with scarcely a brief moment of shock beforehand than to spend minutes quaking in terror, unable to defend himself.

Efren shook off his doubts and quickly pushed out the weighty flap, sword raised ready, and opened his mouth to yell an alert to awaken any of his warriors who hadn’t already sensed the looming danger, same as he had. But the breath he drew to strengthen his voice instead choked him.

He’d never before smelled these fumes, but the pungent, wet-dog odor had been described to him. The material of their tents was heavily treated to keep the toxin producing that odor from permeating the walls and closed flaps.

Icy apprehension slithered across Efren’s skin before settling in the pit of his gut. This was a completely unexpected development. The alchemists from the kingdom of Proye who’d developed this toxin—and unfailingly guarded the recipe—called it “Knockout.”

As Efren’s sword arm dropped, followed swiftly by his eyes rolling back in his head and his body slumping in a boneless crumple, a corner of his brain recognized how fittingly it was named, and hoped that enough of it had entered the tent through the briefly opened flap that Marcelo would succumb before Proye agents executed whatever they had planned. They’d been married for less than two days, and already he’d failed his innocent, young husband.

COVER - Eeli

Bobbie Rayne & Steph Marie have a new MM paranormal dragon rider book out, book three of the four-part Brotherhood of Ormarr series: Eeli.

Eeli~

I’ve been training my entire life for this; I need to be the best, the best fighter, the best dragon rider in the entire brotherhood. This is what I was born for. The only problem is that my bonded dragon, Bodhi, and I can’t seem to get it together. One minute I think we’re connecting properly, and the next she’s taking off, leading me to the one guy I don’t want to know: Slash. He’s basically the opposite of me in every way, and I don’t get why he’s suddenly everywhere I turn, but I can’t deny how he makes me feel when he looks at me.

Slash~

Three years ago my sister and I had to come to a new town and started new schools without our parents’ unconditional love and support. My uncle’s an uncaring drunk, so I’m doing the best I can to keep us both clothed and fed with only an after school job. If I didn’t have her to live for, the loneliness would be excruciating. Now, with only a few months until graduation, I’ve suddenly made a friend because of my sister, and another guy keeps stumbling into me who I think needs help: Eeli. I don’t understand why no one else sees how oddly he’s behaving, but I can’t deny my attraction for him is growing with every mishap.

Eeli is the third book in The Brotherhood of Ormarr series. While each book focuses on a different couple, the overall story arc continues in the next installment. For maximum enjoyment, we suggest reading in order. Eeli is a m/m NA romance, and is recommended for adults 18 years and older.

MEME1 - Eeli

Before I could say anything else, Bodhi released herself from my skin and scampered down my arm, then took off like a shot down the hallway. There was no way I could’ve caught her.

“Bo!” What the heck was she doing? We were in a public building for crying out loud! “Bodhi, stop!”

She ran around a corner, and I heard a scream. Crap. She wasn’t even hiding herself from humans. Now I was going to have to erase some poor human’s memory of her. Bodhi, stay where you are.

Mine.

I rolled my eyes. Did she seriously take off like that for a candy wrapper? It’s trash, Bo, why are you so obsessed with trash?

Not trash; pretties!

Turning the corner, I took in the scene before me. Bodhi was in front of me looking ready to pounce and doing that little butt wiggle thing she did every time she saw a candy wrapper. And a guy had his back against the lockers with his hands in the air like he was being arrested or something. My eyes widened when I realized who it was. Slash.Because of course it was. He was the only other person here as far as I knew. Fantastic.

“Of course, it’d be you,” I muttered with an eye roll.

“Wh-what is that thing?” he asked without taking his eyes off the small dragon.

“That’s Bodhi, she’s my—” I was cut off when Bo suddenly launched herself at him and he screamed and covered his face with his arms. Unfortunately for him, she grabbed onto his forearm with her clawed feet, then flipped herself upside down, hanging off his arm and hugging Slash’s waist with her wings. Her overly playful nature wasn’t coming in handy right now. “—she’s my dragon,” I finished with a sigh.

Slash was screaming and waving his arms, trying to push her off with no luck.

“Slash, just give her your candy.”

He paused his crazy flailing. “Wh-what?”

“Your candy. She wants it. If you hand it over, she’ll leave you alone and you can forget all about this.” When I erase your memory, I added to myself. Maybe I could erase his memory of every crap thing he’d seen me do the past few weeks, too.

Without looking at me, he was trying to peel her off his waist. “I don’t have any candy.”

“Do you have a wrapper?”

“What? No!”

“Are you sure?”

He yelled, “I don’t have any candy!”

“Okay, okay, sheesh.” My brow furrowed. “Bodhi?”

She twisted her neck to look at me, then flipped around to wrap her wings around Slash as she said, Mine.

What’s yours? He doesn’t have any candy.

She looked at me again, then nudged a terrified Slash’s cheek and said, Ours.

It took me a second, but my eyes widened as her meaning finally hit me, and I looked at Slash as he begged, “Please get it off me.”

“Slash?” I whispered to Bodhi. “No. Nope. No. No way. No.”

Ours.

“Eeli! Please help me! Call the police or animal control or something!”

I opened my mouth to say something, but no words came out as Slash finally looked at me. As soon as our eyes connected, I felt it. That strange pull I’d felt every time I’d been around him lately and chalked it off as some kind of weird fascination with a mix of lust. But that wasn’t all it was. I should’ve known it was more than that, but… but it was Slash.

Swallowing thickly, I exchanged a look with Bo, then whispered to Slash, “She’s not going to hurt you.”

He looked like he was so terrified, he might cry. “How do you know that?”

“She’s my bonded dragon. She’s… just happy to see you.”

“Dr-dragon?” He glanced down at her as she snuggled into his neck, then he whispered, “Dragons aren’t real.”

“Clearly,” I said sarcastically as I finally peeled Bodhi off him.

Slash stayed against the lockers, but moved away a few steps without taking his eyes off her. It was a struggle to keep Bodhi from going after him again.

“Um… so… I’m going to need you to come with us.”

Slash finally looked at me again, and I instantly felt the pull even though he looked angry and ready to murder me with his eyes alone. “Are you kidding me? No way in hell am I going anywhere with you or thatthing in your arms.”

Bo sunk into me, and I knew he’d hurt her feelings, so I hugged her to my chest. “Don’t say stuff like that about her. Say whatever you want about me, Slash, but don’t you dare bully Bodhi.”

His eyebrows went up, but all he muttered was, “Whatever. I’m just going to go.” He went to scoop up his backpack from the ground where it’d fallen, but I quickly stepped on the strap so he couldn’t take it.

“I can’t let you do that.”

“Oh yeah, Eeli? What’re you gonna do about it?”

Bo jumped from my arms and began pecking at his feet, making him move closer to me as he jumped around and tried to get away. When she had him up against the lockers in front of me again, I pulled out my cell to call Zale.

“Hey.”

“Hey, uh… we have a problem.”

“What’s going on? Where are you?”

“I’m still at school, but uh… can you meet me here? I need your help.” Before he could reply I added, “And bring some rope.”

“Eeli, what’s going on? Are you hurt?” Zale asked at the same time that Slash’s eyes widened as he said, “Rope?”

I didn’t take my eyes off him as I asked my brother, “Is your mate with you?”

“Of course.”

“Bring him, too.”

“Why do you need Davis?”

My blue eyes connected with Slash’s hazel ones, and I said, “Because he has experience with kidnapping people.”

“Lex?” Arden’s voice was worried and he spun to find his lover at the bottom of the stairs looking adorably rumpled, with his blond hair sticking out every which way, and his long pale legs bare and sticking out of the bottom of one of Lex’s t-shirts. A flare of panic lit in his chest, but he quickly extinguished it. He wouldn’t let prejudice or his father’s decade old warning stop him from acknowledging Arden for exactly what he was: his. “Baby, this is Mace,” he pointed to Mace. “And…” he trailed off as he turned to the other men, all three of them staring at Arden like teenage boys at a wet t-shirt contest. “Hey,” he barked, voice deep and commanding. “Mind reeling in your tongues and introducing yourselves?” Mace laughed beside him, setting the mugs on the table and walking over to Arden. Lex felt the tic in his jaw, but held himself in check, no matter how badly he wanted to walk over there and step between them. “You’ll have to forgive us,” Mace said, charm that Lex knew he wielded like a weapon in full effect. “We didn’t realize Lex had company. I’m Mace, taught your boy everything he knows. Well, everything interesting anyway.” He winked. “And those three are Larry, Moe, and Curly.” Arden’s eyes went wide, darting between Lex’s face and Mace’s. “I’m just shitting you. They’re Axel, Waylon, and Damon. And you are?” “Arden,” he said holding out his hand for Mace to shake. Of course, shaking wasn’t enough and Mace lifted Arden’s hand to his mouth and pressed a kiss against his knuckles. “Mace,” Lex ground out when he lingered over Arden’s fingers a little too long. Mace released him with a smug look at Lex, but took a step back. “Give us a minute, would you?” he asked Mace and the room at large. The other three were obviously used to Mace’s flair for the dramatic and had already moved to seat themselves around the table and were pouring cups of coffee. One of them—Axel, maybe—had Pip cradled in his lap. Mace turned back toward the table as well, giving them the illusion of privacy. “Sorry,” Arden whispered when Lex stepped into his space. Lex pressed a quick kiss to his lips to cut off that line of thought altogether. “You don’t have anything to be sorry about. This is our home and we’re not going to hide here. Although,” he glanced down at Arden’s beautifully muscled legs. “Maybe pants would be a good idea.” Arden gave him a small smile. “I’m gonna run up and shower to get this,”—he pointed at his head—“under control. Then I’ll be back down.” Arden disappeared back up the stairs, and Lex was glad no one was standing close enough to see the glimpse of his ass cheeks peeking out from the bottom of those lacy panties he liked to wear sometimes—and under his damned t-shirt too. The man was going to be the death of him. He discreetly adjusted himself before he turned back to the table and Mace lifted an eyebrow at him. “Not one word,” he warned as he sat down in one of the empty chairs and pulled the coffee pot toward him. As he filled his cup, he kept his eyes on his task, but let his voice take on the low warning tone that would clearly imply exactly what he’d do to any of them if they treated Arden with anything less than respect. He needed to know now if he any of them had a problem with him being gay or Arden being...well, Arden. “If any of you feel like you need to get back on your bikes now that you know—” “Lex,” Mace interrupted him. “The club’s changed a lot since you’ve been gone.” The corner of his mouth quirked up, undoubtedly remembering one of the numerous times the two of them had almost gotten caught with their pants around their ankles. “We’re Heretics. Non-conforming is kind of what we do.

Jamie switched all his leashes to one hand and reached for Nate, taking his left hand and stuffing it in Jamie’s right pocket. Jamie’s hand was huge around Nate’s. And so warm. Nate sighed internally at the sweetness. Why couldn’t Jamie have been the one? Why did fate have to make them so different and yet so much the same?
“Put your other hand in your hoodie pocket with the leashes. The critters won’t mind. They have fur. Night gets cold here. By November we’ll be in the thirties every night.”
Nate did as he was told, enjoying the way Jamie’s hand cupped his, and his closeness. He was so warm. Did he get just how much of a comfort it was to have him close? Even if Nate felt like shit for needing anyone.
“They are so well-behaved,” Nate whispered.
“Training,” Jamie said. “Lots of training and socialization. There are times when I have to do a dozen walks a night. This batch has all been with me a while. They keep each other in check, but if there was something big like a fox, or something that set them off, they’d probably drag me along with them.”
“How do you do it?” Nate asked after a while. They’d walked some distance and turned around, crossing the street so they could walk along the other side and give the dogs something new to sniff.
“Do what?”
“Be normal.”
Jamie laughed. “I’m not any more normal than anyone else. I have a pet goat, remember?”
“You’re quirky,” Nate admitted.
“Nothing wrong with quirky. We’d have never met if we both weren’t quirky.” Which was the truth.
Nate wondered if Jamie realized he was holding Nate’s hand. Did he get just how amazing it felt? How much Nate had dreamed of walking under the stars hand in hand with him? He’d spent years convincing himself that no matter how much he might dream of Jamie being the one, it just wasn’t possible. Being in love with a straight guy was hard enough. Add to it the fact that said straight guy was his best friend just made it worse. He feared doing anything that might change their relationship.
“Thank you,” Nate said.
“For?”
“Being you. Taking care of me. Your patience.”
Jamie smiled. “One of the few things I’m very good at.”
“I think you’re good at a lot of things.”
“Like?” Jamie prompted.
“Are you fishing for compliments?”
“Maybe.”
“I’m sure you’re very good at rangering. And you used to kick my ass all the time at WoW. Plus the critters love you. So I think you’re pretty good at rescues.”
“They always fight a little at first,” Jamie said.
“Huh?”
“My rescues. There’s usually some snarling, biting, and crying in the beginning. Change isn’t easy for anyone,” Jamie said. Nate didn’t think they were talking about the animals anymore. Jamie bumped his shoulder. “Time is usually a better healer than anything I can do. Sometimes you just have to wait them out. Make sure they have the basics until they are ready to ask for more.”
“How long does that normally take?”
Jamie shrugged. “Depends on where they come from and how long they’ve spent with the world damaging them.”
Thirty-seven years in Nate’s case.
They reached the house and Jamie shuffled everyone into the backyard. Nate didn’t want to let go of his hand, but he had to so they could unleash the dogs. The bags were deposited into a trashcan outside the gate. “This is compost. The bags are biodegradable. This bin gets picked up once a week, but it stinks. So I keep it away from the house.” Jamie put the batch of bags back in the cupboard by the leashes. “Just grab the bags when you take them out. Harry doesn’t usually go when we walk. He’s got a back corner I clean once a month. The dogs do though.”
“What do you do when it’s cold? Do they still stay outside?”
Jamie pointed off to a shed Nate hadn’t been to yet. It was big. Sort of barn looking, but old. “It’s heated, though we don’t get all that cold. Harry usually comes inside in the winter. Matilda is always in the barn at night. I keep clean hay for her and blankets. She likes her space. Had another pony once, but that was just too much work. I’ll leave the horse rescues to Jason. If Mattie didn’t like it here so much, I’d have moved her out with Jason’s horses so she had buddies. But she seems to like the dogs. And sometimes I find her and Harry snuggled together.”
Nate put the leashes back up as Jamie handed them to him. They were all color coded with the hooks, which was brilliant.
“You tired? Or want to watch a movie? I figure we can try to get the kitties together. Maybe eat some pastries.” Jamie headed inside with Nate close behind him.
Nate was surprised to be met with Leo in the kitchen. “Oh my God, how did you get out?” Leo sat there, unconcerned. Had Nate left the door open when he’d gotten ready for the walk? Friar Tuck jumped down off his chair and stalked toward Leo. “Oh no!”
Jamie held out a hand to stop Nate from sweeping Leo up. “Just give them a minute. If they swipe at each other we’ll take them to corners, but Tuck is pretty neutral.” Jamie went to the sink and washed his hands. Nate copied him even though he’d just been holding leashes. He kept an eye on Leo who was all of five pounds and Friar Tuck who looked twice his size, even missing a leg.
Tuck reached Leo and rubbed along his side, only for Leo to turn and lick himself as if he’d just been made dirty. They barely acknowledged each other. Jamie grinned. “Figured they were both too old to care much.”
“What about Ember and Ash?”
Jamie shrugged. “They’ll either get along or they’ll avoid each other. You know how picky cats are. Let me jump into the shower and we’ll watch a movie.”
It was after nine. “Don’t you have to be up early?”
“Seven?” Jamie shrugged. “I was up a lot later talking to you most nights. You forget you were two hours ahead of me. Go change into some jammies and meet me in the living room. I’m thinking it’s a Guardians night.”
“You just love the music from that,” Nate shouted back as he made his way upstairs.
“Yep.”
Nate’s door was open, but both AJ and Riley were still in the room. AJ on the bed and Riley on the bookshelf. Funny enough, Ember and Ash were on the bed too, curled up into twin gray balls about four feet from AJ. Nate hurried into a pair of sleep pants and a T-shirt. He probably could have gone to bed since he was pretty tired, but didn’t want to disappoint Jamie. In fact, he looked forward just to spending some time with his best friend. Too much time had passed during Nate’s illness in which he’d pushed people away. He didn’t want to do that to Jamie anymore.
Nate headed back downstairs to find Jamie fiddling with the TV. He waited for Jamie to get started, though the box of tarts was on the table. He rifled through it and found one of the lemon special diet ones. It was fantastic. Jamie glanced his way and grinned. “They’re amazing, aren’t they?”
“So good,” Nate moaned with a mouthful. “These are the special ones, and I didn’t think they’d be as good. No gluten or sugar.”
“They make a chocolate avocado pudding cake that is amazing. Flourless. It’s thick and rich. Need a huge glass of milk to eat even the tiniest sliver.” Jamie got the movie going and sat down on the edge of the couch. He reached for the box and balanced it on the fluffy back of the sofa. Nate took the other end. Jamie pointed to a blanket hanging off the chair nearby. Nate grabbed it and curled it over his lap, letting his bare feet rest on the middle cushion. He kept glancing Jamie’s way to see if he’d get mad at Nate for having his feet on the furniture, but he said nothing. His feet were bare too.
Leo leapt up into Nate’s lap. “Hey, baby boy. How you doing?” Nate asked him as the cat put his nose to Nate’s collar and began to knead. “I’m here for you.” Nate stroked the cat. Jamie shifted in his seat so he could put his feet on the middle cushion too, and dug them up under the blanket. Nate smiled and tried to ignore the fact that Jamie’s feet were cold and they were touching.

4.5 out of 5 stars

Range of Emotions is the third book in the Survivors Find Love series. While you do see characters from the previous books, you could read this as a standalone without getting losing the story.

This was a really good read..but also a tough read as the main character, Nate, lives with mental illness. This is told through his eyes and that gives the story a depth into what living with mental illness really is like, and Nate goes through highs and lows and lots of self esteem issues through the entire book.

As I said, I thought this was a good, solid read, with a very satisfying ending. I liked that it showed  you could live with mental illness but still were able to have healthy relationships, even while you were working on getting healthier yourself. Nate's friendship with Jamie and then their eventual relationship are the one thing that Nate can draw on and depend on to be there for him. While the events in this book may not be intrinsic to all who live with mental illness, it shows that we/they are still human beings who need the support, and love of others in their lives.

I loved Jamie's steady presence in Nate's life. Even when Nate was at his lowest he still treated him as Nate. He and Nate as friends and then again as lovers were the best mix together. I'll admit there were a few parts in there that were really swoon-worthy between them.

I highly recommend picking this one up for a not so light read that packs an emotional punch with fantastic characters.
