Jeremiah by Jayce Ellis - Blog Tour with Excerpt and Giveaway

Jeremiah by Jayce Ellis

Series: High Rise #1

Release Date: January 6, 2020

Subgenre: Contemporary m/m romance

Book Synopsis:

Jeremiah Stewart’s sexuality is no one’s business. Not that he’s hiding it. When—if—he finds the right one, he’ll absolutely introduce him to Mom. But a late-night brush with a sexy stranger in too much lip gloss has him rethinking nearly everything…

To Collin Galloway, direction is a four-letter word. Sure, he hates his job, he hates living with his parents and he really hates watching everyone move on without him. But he doesn’t know what he wants to do, long-term, and he won’t figure it out by thirsting over Jeremiah, the superhot, superintense paramedic who is suddenly everywhere Collin looks.

When Jeremiah’s faced with losing all he’s worked so hard to build, he reluctantly accepts Collin’s help. They’re both determined to stay professional…which works about as well as either would imagine. But Collin only does closets with clothes, and Jeremiah has to decide if he’s finally found the one worth bringing home to Mom.

Excerpt :

I waved before stepping on [the elevators] and pressing the button for ten. I just barely caught the muffled “hold that” from down the hall.
No lie, I was tempted to let it close and let whoever it was catch the next one, but I pressed the door open button and three people staggered on. And I fucking choked on air because one of them, a dark-haired man with brown eyes smudged with liner, was about the prettiest thing I’d ever seen.
He was also apparently the only sober one, and he gave me a tiny smile. “Thanks. Appreciate it.”
I nodded and posted up in the corner. The girl could barely stand up straight, probably part liquor and part the obscene heels she was wearing, and the other guy, a blond, was red-cheeked and giggling to himself. But the brunet could get it, even though the pseudo-spiky hair that had probably been perfect a few hours ago had wilted in this fuck-ass humidity. White boy problems. His shirt was sticking to him, and…did that bitch say PrEP-py on it? Like a neon sign he was trying to hit. I homed in again on the blue liner and sparkly lip-gloss he was gnawing off. I wanted to stop him, soothe that bruised lower lip with my tongue, and…the thought made my body stir in ways it hadn’t for months.
Fucking hell. I closed my eyes and willed my imagination and my dick to calm all the way down.
The floor dinged to a stop and I looked forward to find him staring at me, his eyes wide and searching and gorgeous. Eighth floor. I held my arm out while he and the blond, but mostly he, helped the woman off, but her foot caught in a thread on the carpet and she stumbled, taking the blond down with her. They laughed, the sound almost hyena-like with the wheezing and gasping, while the brunet stood there, his shoulders and head sagging. Fuck it, the way this night was going, they wouldn’t get any farther if I left them. I stepped out and let the elevator close behind me.
“You need some help?” I asked.
Dark-hair looked at me, his eyes wide, and shook his head. “Oh, no need. I’ve got them.”
See, now nine times out of ten I would’ve found that endearing, that he was cautious of me as a stranger and wanted to make sure his drunk friends were okay. And my Black ass knew better than to involve myself with drunk folks. I was going to pay for this later.
“I’m a paramedic. Let me help.” I bent over and scooped the girl into my arms, settling her head against my shoulder. She smelled like cheap liquor and expensive perfume, and didn’t that sum up DC in a nutshell? “Where am I going?”
He gnawed on that lip again.
“Stop that,” I said, and he jumped. Skittish little thing. I wanted him.

About the author:

Jayce Ellis has three loves: her husband and her two turtles. Hubby loves her back. The turtles she's not so sure about, but they do love their sports (Bay Area teams FTW!). She still hasn't figured out why she lives in Northern Virginia, where there's weather, instead of California, where she's from, and where it's just...pretty. Jayce spends her days divorcing happily-married couples (or so she's been told), and her nights talking maniacally to herself. Thankfully the recorder catches her rumblings and magically turns them into words on a screen. Painting nails is way easier when you don't actually have to type, and with well over 500 polishes to get through, there's a lot of painting going on.

Notwithstanding her no-good, very bad, horrible day job, Jayce seriously believes that true love conquers all. Even Maleficent said it. Sure, she was having an epic Mean Girls moment at the time, but she still said it. And she's right. The only thing Jayce loves more than writing about true love conquering all, is hearing from readers who feel the same way.

Graveyard Shift by Jenn Burke - Release Blitz with Excerpt and Giveaway

Graveyard Shift by Jenn Burke
Series: Not Dead Yet #3
Release Date: November 4, 2019
Subgenre: LGBTQ+ Paranormal Romance

Order here:

Synopsis:

Ghost/god Wes Cooper and his not-life partner, vampire Hudson Rojas, have settled into cohabitation in an upscale part of Toronto. So what if their hoity-toity new neighbors haven’t exactly rolled out the welcome mat for the paranormal pair? Their PI business is booming, and when a suspect they’ve been tailing winds up in the morgue, it’s alongside a rash of other shifters in apparent drug-related fatalities.

Now Wes and Hudson must connect the dots between the shifter deaths and an uptick in brutal vampire attacks across the city. Throw in a surprise visit from Hudson’s niece—who may or may not be on the run from European paranormal police (who may or may not exist)—and guardianship of a teen shifter who might be the key to solving the whole mystery (if only she could recover her memory), and Wes and Hudson have never been busier…or happier.

But when a nightmare from Hudson’s past comes back to haunt him, their weird, little found family is pushed to the brink. Mucking this up would mean Hudson and Wes missing their second chance at happily-forever-afterlife…

Excerpt :

No sooner had I hung up with Ren than my phone buzzed again—this time with the ringtone I’d assigned to Hudson, “Axel F.” To say he wasn’t amused by it was an understatement—“I’m not Eddie Murphy, for fuck’s sake”—but that was about 80 percent of the reason I kept it. The other 20 percent was that I really liked Beverly Hills Cop.

“Hey,” I answered. “How’d the client meeting go?”

Now that Hudson and Evan, his baby vampire and junior investigative assistant, weren’t affected by sunlight anymore, thanks to regular sips of my blood—godhood had its benefits—we’d adjusted the hours of the firm to reflect their new availability. We worked late when needed, but usually most nights we wrapped things up around ten instead of after midnight. Hudson had taken to being the lead on client meetings during the day now, since Iskander’s voice was iffy thanks to a throat injury he’d suffered the year before.

“Lots of crying. Jesus.” Hudson huffed out a breath. “I mean, she knew. She told me at our first meeting she was certain he was fooling around. So I’m not sure why all the waterworks.”

“Because she knew, but she didn’t know. You know?”

“No.” I could hear the smile in his voice at the wordplay.

“You hugged her, didn’t you?”

He grunted. “Yes. Ruined another goddamned shirt.”

God, I loved this man. He could grumble and complain all he wanted, but he loved being a private investigator. It showed in the bounce of his step and the lightness in his eyes, even if he tried to maintain the gruffness that had been way more natural when he’d been a homicide detective.
“Look, I’m going to miss lunch. I got a call from Kat—she wants to meet me at the morgue.”

“Uh…” That was not where I thought this conversation would go. “Why?”

“Weird stuff.”

Of course. Hudson’s old boss, Detective Sergeant Katrina Li, brought him in on anything that seemed hinky these days. “Anything to do with our buddy from yesterday?”

“She didn’t say.”

“Okay, come get me.”

Silence came over the line. “It’s the morgue, Wes.”

“I’m dead, Hudson.”

“Yeah, but not—not dead-dead. Not morgue dead. It might be gross.”

“I can handle it.”

“Wes—”

“I can handle it. Come get me. You might be able to use my godly insights.”

Hudson made his trademark can’t react don’t react breathy-grunt noise, but I wasn’t sure if he was holding back a chuckle or a groan. Maybe both. I had that effect at times.

“Fine,” he finally said. “I’ll be there soon.”

I hung up, triumph flashing through me. Lately he’d made a real effort to show, on a regular basis, that he trusted me and my judgment. This was progress, and I was excited.

“The morgue?” Lexi bit off the last of her lollipop and crunched it. “Ready to witness an autopsy?” She smirked.

My elation faded. “He didn’t say anything about that.”

“Oh, cool. Maybe it’s not that, then.” She chucked the stick at the garbage can next to the end table and got it in. “Could be an identification request. Sometimes bodies come in so decomposed or damaged—”

“Lexi—”

“Watch out for the brains in jars.”

Yeah, that definitely wasn’t happiness in my stomach now.

Book synopsis:

A lasting connection needs more than simply surviving a winter together—they’ll have to outsmart danger, let down their defenses and open their hearts.

Owen Han has a fresh lease on life—he’s kicked cancer’s ass and is roaring through his bucket list. The former investment banker hopes to find his next challenge in Alaska, volunteering alongside park rangers and fulfilling his childhood dreams of snowy winters and rustic life. Of course, those dreams did tend to feature big strapping mountain men in vivid detail…

Ranger Quilleran Ramsey would like to be anywhere other than dealing with newbie volunteers. And really, the only thing he needs less than a green volunteer “partner” is the flirty attentions of a buff city boy who doesn’t look ready to last a week, let alone an Alaskan winter. They’re all wrong for each other, even if Quill’s traitorous body enjoys the flirting more than it should.

As the weeks pass, the two snowbound men give in to temptation. But can their seasonal romance last until spring? For them to have a future together, each will have to trust the other…while hoping that the harsh elements and omnipresent dangers don’t destroy what happiness they’ve found in the moment.

One-click with confidence. This title is part of the Carina Press Romance Promise: all the romance you’re looking for with an HEA/HFN. It’s a promise!

Excerpt:

“Tea for everyone. Then a hot shower and lots of blankets,” Owen declared as they entered the building, bossy streak making a blessed reappearance right when Quill really needed to not be the one thinking. If Owen had a plan, so much the better because Quill wasn’t good for much besides stripping off his gear, stowing his piece, stomping upstairs, and flopping into a kitchen chair. Owen draped one of the blankets from the couch around his shoulders before doing the same for himself, wearing it like a cape as he made tea. “Bourbon in yours? I found a bottle in the cabinet the other week.”
“Yeah.” Quill didn’t often imbibe, but he needed the burn of the liquor even more than any warmth-giving properties. The bourbon was there exactly for nights like this one where Quill had done his best and it still hadn’t been enough. Fucking universe and its random acts of cruelty.
After adding a healthy glug of liquor to each of their mugs, Owen shoved a cup at Quill. He also put a plate of cookies from the batch that got baked on the table. “Here you go. Eat something so the alcohol doesn’t hit too hard.”
“Feels like I should be the one taking care of you,” Quill admitted after he’d had a few sips of tea, let the warmth and burn work past the tightness in his throat and chest.
“We can take care of each other,” Owen countered, pulling his chair close to Quill’s. “That’s what we’re here for, right?”
A few hours ago, Quill would have argued that being alone was the best way to cope with something like this—find a way to push through and on to the next day either with the aid of some strong drink or just a restless night spent replaying the events until sleep did its thing, softened the edges of the awfulness. But when Owen grabbed his hand, squeezed, and looked at him with such compassion in his eyes, Quill couldn’t find it in himself to pull away.
“Yeah,” he said, even as he knew that he shouldn’t let himself come to need Owen like this, to lean on him. He and Hattie had always tended to retreat to their own corners after a hard shift, and he prided himself on being a strong man. Sure, accidents like this affected him as they would anyone, but he’d always tried to handle those emotions on his own. Harsh memories of his father’s comments about men who showed their feelings didn’t help any, but lately all those memories, all the family drama, seemed more distant. Less sharp.
And funny how without that mantle of a painful past, his present seemed somehow more hopeful, old wounds and past fears no match for Owen. In fact, they’d been on the verge of another disagreement when Owen had dropped everything to come help. And now here he was, taking care of Quill yet again. Owen simply didn’t seem to have it in him to hold a grudge too long. Quill would be a fool to pull away now, even if he knew the next night like this, the inevitable one after Owen left, would hurt that much more. But that moment, all he wanted to do was hold Owen close, take every comfort he offered from Christmas lights to hot toddies to underdone gingerbread to that strong hand of his, holding on when Quill needed it most.

Blog Tour Exclusive Q&A:
Q: Does one of the main characters hold a special place in your heart? If so, why?

AA: Both characters, Quill and Owen, are special to me for different reasons. Quill, my grumpy park ranger, is special to me because he’s a more mature hero, but he’s also unaware of the extent of his own loneliness. Giving Quill the HEA he deserves was immensely satisfying. Owen, my optimistic new volunteer assigned to Quill, is special because he represents a character that I’ve wanted to do for a long time—one who survived a major medical scare and now has a second lease on life and is determined to make the most of each day.

Q: What was the inspiration for the story?

AA: My amazing critique partner and best friend, Wendy Qualls, came to me with the idea of how in remote areas, park rangers are often snowed in together for months at a time. I loved the idea immediately, and we started brainstorming. I brought in a lot of my favorite tropes—opposites attract, age gap, close proximity, building friendship, adventure, working together, and more as the plot started to take shape for me. Then later, I came up with the idea of making it series set in Alaska, and worked that plot bunny into the series. Book Three seemed to fit best for this one, so that’s where it landed, but initially it was the first plot bunny, and everything else sprang from that one.

Q: What is the key theme and/or message in the book?

AA: Love finds us where we least expect it, but most need it. Neither Owen nor Quill expects to find the love of their lives when they’re snowed in together for an Alaskan winter, but love has a way of finding people when they need it most and of healing old wounds and giving fresh courage. I really wanted to show how love can provide the best fresh start of all, even when we stay in the same place we’ve always been or when we venture thousands of miles out of our comfort zone—love finds those who need it most.

Q: What is the significance of the title?

AA: ARCTIC HEAT is actually the coldest book in the series—tons and tons of snow and snowed in fun. The heat totally comes from the chemistry between the main characters!

Q: If you had to describe the main characters in three words, what would those three words be?

AA: As the story opens, Quill is grumpy, lonely, and loyal. He’s grumpy about being assigned a new volunteer, lonely from long hours alone and with his BFF now assigned elsewhere, and he’s loyal to his job. Meanwhile, Owen is optimistic, fun, and adventure seeking. He’s an optimist who survived a health scare and now is seeking fun and adventure in Alaska.

Book synopsis:

Twisted Wishes bass player Mish Sullivan is a rock goddess—gorgeous, sexy and comfortable in the spotlight. With fame comes unwanted attention, though: a stalker is desperate to get close. Mish can fend for herself, just as she always has. But after an attack lands her in the hospital, the band reacts, sticking her with a bodyguard she doesn’t need or want.

David Altet has an instant connection with Mish. A certified badass, this ex-army martial arts expert can take down a man twice his size. But nothing—not living as a trans man, not his intensive military training—prepared him for the challenge of Mish. Sex with her is a distraction neither of them can afford, yet the hot, kink-filled nights keep coming.

When Mish’s stalker ups his game, David must make a choice—lover or bodyguard. He’d rather have Mish alive than in his bed. But Mish wants David, and no one, especially not a stalker, will force her to give him up.

Tour Excerpt #2

He should go talk to Mish, but between the run and the sudden burst of anger, he needed a moment to sit in the early morning sun and cool breeze, listen to the birds chatter, and just exist. He cherished the tiny moments of peace whenever he could find them—whether in the hustle of New York, in the horror that had been deployment, or right now, in a parking lot at an amphitheater outside of Atlantic City.
A shuffle of gravel drew his attention back over to the tour buses. Mish had stepped out into the morning, and his breath caught in his throat. The sun burnished her hair to shining copper, and she wore a white tank top and denim shorts that rode low on her hips. She had two mugs of coffee, one in each hand.
She really was a goddess. A queen. Awe, respect, and desire all tangled in David, leaving him shifting on the picnic table bench. With arms and legs toned and muscular, she could kick most people’s asses. He wanted to do everything in his power to protect her anyway. Was that right or wrong? He didn’t know.
She handed him one of the coffees in an official Twisted Wishes mug. Steam curled off the top, and he imagined that might be the way heat curled off his body. Maybe she knew how much she’s affected him, because once he’d taken the mug, she tucked some stray curls behind her ear—a gesture he now recognized as a nervous tic—and there was a hint of color high on her cheeks. Or maybe that was just the way the sun touched her face.
Didn’t matter. David looked down into his coffee. “Thanks.”
“Adrian said you were out here.” She took a seat across the table from him. “Maybe coffee isn’t the best thing after a run, but…”
He met her gaze, and her eyes were green in the soft sunlight. “I had a ton of water before and during the run, so this is perfect.” He took a sip, and it made the day even brighter. “How the heck do you get good coffee out of a tour bus?”
She laughed. “From Adrian. Zavier used to make the coffee, and it was decent, but one of the things Adrian managed to outdo Zav on was the coffee. I’m not sure if it’s the beans he uses or if he’s part coffee-whisperer, but…” She gestured to the mugs.
“He fits in with all of you.”
“Wasn’t a surprise. Any guy Dominic fell for was going be someone we all loved.”
“Like a family.” He didn’t expect the pang of pain that stabbed at his heart. He missed those kinds of connections. Had them in the military for a while. Had them with a few former girlfriends, but over the years of becoming himself, many of those relationships had changed or slipped away. Jobs like this one had him on the road a lot, even with a home in New York. He liked the solitary life, but he still missed what he couldn’t have anymore. Not in the long run.
Wasn’t his nature.
His silence must have said more than words, because Mish reached across the table and laid her hand on top of his. “Honey, before this crew, I was alone. I know how it goes.”
“Thanks.” He took another sip of coffee and turned the palm of his free hand to catch hers and give it a squeeze. “Don’t mind me being a grumpy old man.”
“You’re hardly grumpy. Or old.” She left her hand in his.
The way his heart thumped in his chest had nothing to do with the coffee or the run. “I’m an old soldier trying to make the world a little better best way I can.”
“But aren’t we all, in our own ways?” She rubbed her thumb over the palm of his hand. Sparks of awareness shivered down to his dick, but also up to the back of his head. Not all was lust. Been easier if it were.
“Maybe.” He moved his fingers against hers. “I do envy your little family. It’s clear how much you care about each other.”
“It’s hard won.” Mish ran a finger of her other hand around the edge of her mug. “We lost Kevin along the way. He’s in a better space and doing things he loves, but still.” Her shoulders dropped. “We nearly lost Ray permanently. Puts things in perspective.”
Yeah, that would.
“We do tend to pick up strays.” She smiled before drinking more coffee.
“Am I a stray?” Was he considered part of this group after a little more than two weeks? God, these people were unreal.
“You’re a man who cares, David.”
Despite the coffee, his throat felt tight. “You have to care to protect, if you’re doing it properly.” But not too much. Not get involved emotionally. He’d already blown way past that point, sitting here holding Mish’s hand. Given the jumble of emotions, this might as well be high school, and him sitting with Tricia at lunch, secretly holding hands under the table.
Except their hands were out in the open, and no one would beat him up later. Reluctantly, he slipped his fingers from Mish’s.
“I do care about the band, about you.” Especially about Mish. “I don’t want to hide things from you. You’ve already had that happen with your bandmates trying to protect you.” He waved at the bus. “But I gotta know when you want me to tell you things. Right before the show doesn’t seem the best time.”
She wrapped both hands around her mug and made a face. “Tomorrow. Whatever it is, tell me tomorrow. I can’t have that shit in my head tonight.” She sounded apologetic. “That might seem selfish…”
“Fuck no, Mish, it isn’t selfish! You need to be on your game, especially for the first show.”
“Thank you.” Her smile was everything.
He couldn’t keep from grinning back. “With all those stellar practices, you’re going to do great, rock queen.”
She rose and navigated to his side of the table, mug in hand, and bent down to kiss him on the cheek. “Keep that up, honey, and I’m gonna expect you to worship at my feet.”
Oh fuck, that more than the chaste peck made him squirm. This woman? Hell yeah, he’d worship her. David craned his neck to meet her grin with one of his own. “You saying you don’t deserve worship?”
She laughed. “I’ll see you around, David.”
Man, everything about that woman left him in a daze, from her kiss to the way she moved as she headed back to the tour bus.

Exclusive Blog & Review Tour Q&A:

What are you reading now?

Anna: RITA books! This is the time of year (Feb-March) where those of who entered RWA’s RITA awards get our judging packets and we’re reading our peer’s books. I can’t actually say anything about the books I’m reading, but I really do like judging. Sometimes I find new authors to read!

What is the significance of the title?

Anna: Well, all the Twisted Wishes titles are musical terms. In this case, it’s Reverb, which is short for Reverberation. The titles end up being a little thematic to the book, though I don’t always intend that to happen! In acoustics, reverb is the persistence of sound after its produced. It’s the echo, the reflection of that sound. With a guitar, that can be digitally enhanced, but basically, all music and sound reverberates. In this book, actions reverberate. They linger. You can feel them even after they’re over. Events, even from the past, echo forward. But so does love and caring and family.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

Anna: A marine biologist, and then a geneticist. But in my junior year of high school, I discovered I could write and that people loved what I wrote, so my whole career plans shifted, and I ended up going to college for writing! And my day job is technical writing, so everything is writing.

Now, though, if I could go back and get another career (and keep writing), I’d love to go into electrical engineering with an eye on power grids and high voltage. I’m fascinated by how power is transferred and stored on the large scale. Which…is probably weird. But there you have it.

Anna Zabo talks Reverb:

Sometimes protectors need protecting, and there’s no shame in that. It doesn’t make you weak. Sometimes you have to let go of the expectations you’ve carved into yourself to be with someone. Also that the love of family and friends is just as important as romantic love.
