About UNFORGIVEN:

From the New York Times bestselling author of the Marked Men series comes an irresistible and suspenseful romance between a tough Texas Ranger and his first love--a woman in danger who insists she doesn't need his protection.

Hill Gamble is a model lawman: cool and collected, with a confident swagger to boot. Too bad all that Texas charm hasn't gotten him anywhere in his personal life, especially since the only girl he ever loved has always been off-limits. But then Hill is assigned to investigate her father's mysterious death, and he's forced back to the town--and the woman--he left behind.

When Hill left Loveless, he broke Kody Lawton's already battered heart. And now that he's working on her father's case, avoiding him is impossible. She can handle Hill and her unwanted feelings--until he puts his life on the line to protect her.

Suddenly, Kody realizes that Hill could be taken away from her...for good.

Excerpt
Hill put his cowboy hat back on his head and stifled a yawn behind his hand. We can save all the updates for later. Yall go ahead and finish laying Conrad to rest. I just wanted to stop by and pay my respects.”
Case reached out to clap Hill on the shoulder at the exact same time I reached out and grabbed a handful of his shirt. My body was moving faster than my brain, and my emotions were all over the place, making it impossible to keep up.
Can you come out to the farmhouse with us?” I wasnt exactly sure why I needed him to come, but I suddenly knew I did.
My oldest brother gave me a questioning look, and I quickly dropped my hand. I cleared my throat and reached up to tuck some of my hair behind my ear.
I mean, if you dont have important investigative stuff to do. Youre practically family. I think you have as much reason as the rest of us to be there.” I felt like I might bolt out the door and not look back if he didnt agree to come. I wasnt supposed to rely on him anymore. Hed proved that was a bad idea in the past, but I couldnt seem to stop myself. As great as my brothers were, they didnt make me feel like everything would eventually be okay again the way Hill did. Regardless of the past, Hill was the one I always believed would be able to fix whatever was broken. It was a lot to put on his shoulders, and totally unfair. No one could live up to those expectations, not even Hill, which was why his fall from the pedestal Id had him on back in the day had been so heartbreaking.
Slowly Hill nodded, all while covering up another yawn. I felt terrible. The guy needed to sleep, not to hang around as my underappreciated security blanket. But putting Conrad into the ground and saying goodbye to my complicated past forever seemed much more manageable when I knew Hill was going to be there while I did it.
We all followed the hearse out of town in a long procession of pickup trucks. Once again my lime-green Jeep Wrangler stuck out like a sore thumb and defied convention. My father had hated the brightly colored vehicle, often referring to it as a death trap. His disdain made me love the thing even more.
The finality of things eventually hit me as I watched my brothers, my nephew, and Hill each take a corner of the casket and start to move my dad to his final resting place. Case had picked a spot under an old cottonwood tree at the back of the property. It was far enough away from the house that a person would have to make a special trip out to pay their respects. It would keep whoever ended up living in the farmhouse from having my fathers ghost lingering right over their shoulder.
It was a somber, serious walk to the location. I think all of us realized we no longer had to live in fear of Conrad or be oppressed by the secrets of our childhood. Our fathers transgressions were no longer our cross to bear, and maybe now we could finally grieve not only for him, but also for our mother.
When she passed away, Conrad did his best to eradicate every trace of her from our lives. She was never spoken of, never cried over, never outwardly missed. She was snatched away and became a hazy memory before any of us could do anything about it. So while we were coming to peace with Dad being gone, we also now had the space to mourn the loss of the woman who had done her best to counterbalance all his hate.
I didnt realize I was crying until Aspen wrapped an arm around my waist and discreetly handed me a tissue. She also handed me a white rose and muttered, Take your time.”
I didnt want to get any closer to the grave. I didnt want to admit I was sad and maybe a little lost. I wanted to pretend none of this was happening…the same way I had when Aaron died.
Thinking about my mom, then Aaron, as well as my father suddenly made the tight grip I had on my composure shatter. It felt like so much had been taken away from me, and it was hard to breathe through the agony of that loss.
My shoulders shook as silent sobs racked my body. Aspen tried to pull me closer, but I pulled away, covering my face as I struggled to rein my emotions in. Both the tissue and the rose hit the ground at my feet as the flood of tears blurred everything into a hazy kaleidoscope. The sobs were no longer silent as I gasped for air and wailed at the unfairness of it all. Sure my dad hadnt been great, but he had been mine. Sure my mom had been sick and suffering, but shed also been mine. And Aaron, God, Id never wanted to let him go. He was the one person Id honestly believed would never leave me, and he was gone as well.
Strong arms wrapped around me, and my forehead hit the center of a strong, broad chest. I knew immediately the man holding me wasnt Case or Crew, but the man who had also lost Aaron. I liked to delude myself into thinking Hill and I had nothing in common, but the truth was, our grief was exactly the same. He was the only person who really knew what it was like to live with that gaping hole inside your heart.
I fisted handfuls of his shirt and cried until I was hoarse and could barely stand. I felt his hand cup the back of my head, but he didnt say anything. He simply stood there, holding me, shielding me as my feelings were finally allowed to run free. I had no idea how long we stood like that, but my knees felt weak and my throat was completely raw by the time the tears dried up.
Wordlessly, I looked over at the now-covered grave and silently picked up the abandoned rose. I tossed it on top of the freshly dug dirt and rubbed my burning eyes with the palms of my hands. I wanted to apologize, to make up some excuse, but as always, Hill seemed to know I was at my breaking point. He didnt question me, didnt push.
Instead, he inclined his scruffy chin in the direction of the old farmhouse and softly stated, You need a glass of water and a few minutes to sit down. Lets head back to the house.”
All I could do was nod weakly and walk next to him. I stumbled slightly and didnt protest when his arm shot out and wrapped around my shoulders, pulling me tightly to his side. I felt like a deflated balloon. I was always so full of hot air and bluster, but it took next to nothing to break that thin shell and show just how fragile I was.
I walked next to Hill in silence, wondering how he always had a knack of showing up just when I needed him. I really wanted to rest my head on his shoulder but held back. It was scary, really, how attuned he was to me, when all Id ever done was push him away and throw up roadblock after roadblock when he tried to mend the wounds of our shared past. The hurt I had was comfortable. I wasnt ready to let go of it yet, no matter how tempting unloading all my baggage was.
It never gets any easier.” His voice was low and I could feel the vibration where I was pressed against him.
What doesnt?
Saying goodbye.” He sighed, and his hold on me tightened a fraction. I still think about Aaron every single day. I can still hear his laugh and see his smile.” Hill cleared his throat. All these years later, whenever my phone rings, I still think it might be him. Time does help, but I dont think its enough to heal some wounds. Some we just have to accept as being part of us forever.”
I sucked in a breath and felt tears threaten once again. I swear I never cried, but lately I was like a damn faucet. I rarely talked about Aaron, and never brought him up when Hill was around. I always thought it would be too painful, too much to bear, but his words brought a flood of happy memories to the surface. Things with Aaron had been so bad at the end, Id repressed almost everything about my time with him, including the good moments. He did have the worlds best smile, and I hadnt thought of it in so long, and wouldnt have if Hill hadnt brought it up.
I put a hand to my chest and felt my heart pounding. I dont know if time has helped me, but it is nice to think of happier times.”
Hill nodded and I shut my mouth, not wanting to go any further down memory lane. I remained silent as we continued to walk. I shouldve told him he could let me go, but I didnt.
It took about twenty minutes to wander back to my childhood home. Hill yawned and apologized for basically sleepwalking no less than five times. I was going to bully him into bed and order him to sleep for at least twelve hours when he came to an abrupt halt as soon as we rounded the side of the run-down house.
Coming down the long dirt road leading into the property was a flashy car, one that had no reason to be pulling up to my fathers home.
Isnt that a Tesla?” The question tumbled out as I instinctively put my hand on the muscled expanse of Hills broad back. I felt him tense at the touch.
It is. Does the driver look familiar?” He kept the question low as I squinted into the setting sun to see if I remembered seeing the person behind the wheel before.
I gasped and practically pushed Hill as I exclaimed, She does!”
The woman driving the Tesla was the same well-dressed redhead whod been at the viewing.
I still had no clue what her connection to my father was, but it looked like I was about to find out.

As they approached the pen, the big light red bull tossed his head.
“Howdy, Peaches.”
The bull gazed at him and blinked. Bulls, and cows for that matter, could see nearly 360 degrees, but they could smell even better. They could pick up scents literally miles away. “Good to smell you, Peaches.”
He propped his arm on the fence and stared in at the bull, then rested there and watched every tiny toss of Peaches’s head, the way he walked to the fence and paced back restlessly, then stopped and gazed at Maury.
“How will you use that information when you ride him later?”
The voice was light, musical, and heavily accented, but the English was perfect. Every syllable traveled up Maury’s spine like a lesson in a brand-new language. Maury turned slowly. “I guess I’ll be ready for him.”
He smiled. Tristão Silva smiled back. That face Maury had thought was unique when he caught a glimpse of it in the bar set whole new records in fucking amazing. His cheeks were like those of some statue made out of marble, but his smile carved a row of crevices, like ripples on a pond. A milk pond. His eyes were dark, but shockingly, they weren’t brown. They were blue. Deep sapphire blue, and at that moment they were sparkling. He said, “Ah, but what is Peaches planning to do with the information he’s collected on you?”
For a second, Maury stared, but then he pulled off his Resistol, slapped it on his leg, and laughed so hard he practically fell into the dirt.
When Maury’d finally stopped howling, Tristão stuck out his hand. “Tristão Silva.”
“Maury Garcia.” He shook the guy’s hand, which was rough, callused, and tough like any bull rider’s. But warm. Really, really warm.
“Of course. I didn’t mean to interrupt your communion, but I’m a big fan, and I wanted to speak to you before my brother arrives. You know what an asshole he can be.” He grinned, and Maury laughed again.
Maury asked, “Did you go yet?”
Tristão shook his head, and the too-long-for-a-bull-rider black hair danced around his face. “Soon.”
“I’ll come and watch you.”
He touched the brim of his black hat. “I’d be honored.”
“If your brother sees me, I’ll tell him I’m scoping out the competition. He says I can’t beat you.”
Tristão snorted. “I’m sure he said you can’t even beat me.”
Maury quirked the corner of his mouth. “I might’ve heard that word tossed in.”
“Xesús is a great bull rider.”
The name sounded like “Zhayzus” when he said it. It also made his lips purse in an interesting way. Maury nodded. “Almost as good as he thinks he is.”
“So true.” Those deep eyes seemed to have some kind of buried lights in them, like escaped fireflies. “But then a man of little ego would never crawl on the back of a bull.”
He turned to leave, then glanced over his shoulder at Maury. “Sorry to have interrupted your meditation for my fanboy moment.” He ambled away. Do cowboys really walk that way? It was as if Tristão heard some music the rest of the world missed. The man was about to risk his life on a bull, and he barely looked worried. Yeah. Young and stupid… and beautiful.

Two words, and they're not much, but it's a start: Crooked Tree.

Detective Ethan Allens has never stopped searching for the two boys who vanished. When a report lands on Ethan's desk that may give new leads, he jumps at the chance to follow them up. A Cowboy's Home (Montana #3)

Sam is as much a part of Crooked Tree as any of the families, and the offer to buy into the ranch is a dream come true. But falling for a hidden, secretive, injured man isn’t the way to keep his head in the game.

Snow In Montana (Montana #4)
An actor in the closet, a sheriff in love, and memories that won’t stay hidden.

Jordan Darby is known as the King of Christmas. The star of eight made-for-TV Christmas movies, the leading man who always gets his girl. Filming at Crooked Tree Ranch in Montana, in the ice and snow, Jordan is fighting to make a go of his new company and dealing with fears of exposure over one huge secret. After all, who the hell would buy into him being a romantic straight lead if rumors about him being gay were proven to be true?

Sheriff Ryan Carter is advising on the new movie being made at Crooked Tree. He hoped this would be one day of work and nothing more. Until, that is, he meets the hero. But while Jordan is sexy, he’s also very much stuck in the closet—everything that Ryan doesn’t need in his life. And then lust becomes part of the equation, and Ryan’s quiet life is thrown into turmoil.

Their story unfolds against the chaos that overtakes the ranch, with Adam regaining memories that terrify him and make him look at Justin differently, and Justin leaving the ranch to make things right. Only through trusting in love and friendship can Justin and Adam learn to look to the future instead of letting the past destroy everything. But will they ever see clearly enough to do that?

Prologue
Ryder Christensen’s mind raced as he stared at the photo collage above the opulent coffin holding his daughter, Gabriella. The air grew thick and hot with every exhale in the cathedral. Between the priest’s homily and the eulogy, Ryder struggled to breathe. He couldn’t name even half of the people here. But that’s what happens when death is sensationalized. People read a tragic story and think they have the right to share in the grief. Ryder just wanted to disappear.

Finally, the service ended. One more event to get through and then… Ryder glanced over at his mom and dad and sighed.

“Looking for me?” a gritty voice behind him asked.

“No.” Never. Ryder never sought the man with dark glasses who towered over him.

“You should have been.”

Ryder growled low in his throat as he nudged the man out of the throngs of people leaving the cathedral. “You come today, of all days? Don’t you have any respect? This is my daughter’s funeral.”

The man—who had never given Ryder his name, maybe for fear it might humanize him—crossed his arms over his chest. “And whose fault is that?”

Asshole. Ryder clenched his hands into fists. He shot his gaze around to see if anyone noticed he was missing yet. As the bereaved father, Ryder had to be on hand for the condolences of friends, family, and strangers. If I relax my posture, I can convince them that’s what me and tough guy here are doing. With that, he released his fists and shrugged the tension from his shoulders.

“Word on the street is that you’re leaving town soon. You weren’t thinking about doing that without saying goodbye, were you?”

“I planned to stop to see your boss tomorrow.” Ryder caught his dad’s eye and raised his finger, signaling that he’d be right there, hoping with everything in him that his dad wouldn’t come over or draw attention to his whereabouts.

“Well, if you have the money now, I could save you a trip.”

Right, because handing over an envelope of cash at a funeral won’t raise anyone’s suspicions. “It’s in my car. Listen, I’ll—”

“You’ll walk me over there, hand me the money, and I won’t cause a scene.” The man moved so that the handle on his revolver glistened in the sun. A pointed reminder of just what kind of scene he could cause, if given the chance.

Ryder raised his hands in surrender. “Follow me.” He realized the futility of his words as soon as they left his lips. Keeping his focus on the uneven pavement under his unsteady feet, Ryder led the goon to his father’s pickup and opened the driver’s side door.

“Nice car.”

“I sold my nice car.” And my nice house. And my nice retirement fund… Ryder swallowed the bile of emotions the thoughts brought up as he extracted the thick envelope from the glove compartment.

“This is everything?”

Everything I have. “That’s what Boss and I agreed on.”

“Hmm. I hope for your sake he remembers that agreement. Later, Cowboy.”

Me too, Ryder thought as the goon tucked the envelope into his jacket pocket and strode toward his black, tinted-window SUV.

“Son?” Ryder’s father asked from behind. “Are you in trouble? Something your mom and I should know?”

Ryder scanned his face for any indication of how much his old man had heard, but Victor Christensen was never one to give too much away. “No, Dad, don’t worry about it. I took care of it.”

Victor nodded, though Ryder could tell he didn’t entirely believe him. “Why don’t we drive over to that luncheon together? Your mom took our car when the service let out. Too many people for her.”

Ryder passed his dad the keys and sat in the passenger seat. Manhattan always had too many people for his parents. “I imagine so. I appreciate you two coming, though.”

Victor made a noise from the driver’s side. “I’m going to pretend you didn’t imply that we’d miss our only granddaughter’s funeral. We’ll always be there for you, son.”

“I know, Dad. It’s just—”

“Nothing. We’ll go to this luncheon, sleep for a couple of hours, then head home.”

Home. It had been a long time since he called the small North Carolina town of Tryon home. Something painfully ironic about starting over in the place he grew up itching to leave.
