Excerpt
Hey, you! Thanks for the most beautiful evening I’ve ever
had, read the
message from Avery.
An infectious smile crept up on
him as he read the message, his fingers hovering over the buttons before he
knew to control them. I had the best time, also. Hope to see you again soon.
The reply came in a nanosecond. When?
Davey laughed. This guy.
He settled on his couch and
turned the TV on. He flipped to a music channel and returned his attention to
his phone. He was off work tomorrow and doing a double the following day. He
really wanted to ask Avery out for tomorrow, but he was afraid it would be too
soon, that it would scare the guy away.
To hell with it. If it scared him
away, Davey didn’t need to bother.
I’m free tomorrow, he said.
He watched as a pop rendition of
“Jingle Bells” displayed on the screen when his phone popped.
I’m working all day, but I’ll ask around for cover. I’ll
get back to you on that one.
Okay, Davey replied simply.
Can’t wait to see you again, Avery said.
Me neither, Davey texted.
He assumed the conversation was
at a still until Avery knew if he could make it tomorrow. It wasn’t.
I miss you.
The message hit him with
surprise. It wasn’t often guys wore their hearts on their sleeve and displayed
their emotions so blatantly, so quick. Was he being more sexual than Davey had
determined he was? Or was he simply taking a leap of faith and hoping it took
off?
He didn’t know how to reply. The
more he thought of Avery, however, the more he realized the statement held true
for him too. He’d only known the guy for three hours, and he couldn’t get
Avery’s cute smile and beautiful eyes off his mind. It was strange. A peculiar
feeling that he could get used to.
I miss you too. Wish you were here with me so I could
look into your eyes again.
Avery responded immediately. :) you are
amazing.
I know :P, he replied.
And cocky from the looks of it, Avery said.
If only you knew how much :P
The TV played endless Christmas
tunes, and Davey was so engulfed in the chat that the sound irritated him.
“Fucking Christmas!” he said as
he switched the set off and was surrounded by silence again. Silence, but not
solitude. Avery was still on the other side of the phone texting something.
Would you be okay if we Skyped? I can’t sleep yet and I
want to see your face before I go to bed, it said.
Davey didn’t know how he felt
about Skyping. He’d done naughty things on Skype. Only if you keep your hands where I can see them, he responded.
