Six years ago Ellis walked into his first briefing as the newest member of London’s Specialist Firearms unit. He was partnered with Wayne and they became fast friends. When Wayne begins to notice changes—Ellis’s erratic temper, the effects of sleep deprivation—he knows he has to act before Ellis reaches his breaking point. He invites Ellis to the opening of the new BDSM club, Secrets, where Wayne has a membership. His purpose? He wants Ellis to glimpse the lifestyle before Wayne approaches him with a proposition. He wants to take Ellis in hand, to control his life because he wants his friend back, and he figures this is the only way to do it.

There are a few issues, however. Ellis is straight. Stubborn. And sexy. Wayne knows he has to put his own feelings aside to be what Ellis needs. What surprises the hell out of him is finding out what Ellis actually requires.

5 out of 5 stars

Before You Break is the first in a new spin-off from the fantastic Collars & Cuffs series by K.C. Wells and Parker Williams. While you could read this as a standalone book, you may have a richer reading experience by reading the Collars & Cuffs series first. It's not necessary but there are some characters that have crossed over into this series.

Our story starts off with both introducing us to Ellis and Wayne, and getting us caught up with Eli and Jarrod as they move to London and prepare to open Secrets. Wayne happens to be a long time member of the club prior to it's closing with the original owners. Ellis is Wayne's teammate in their elite Specialist Firearms unit, as well as being his best friend. What neither man knows about the other is that they both harbor feelings for the other. That's not the only secret Ellis is hiding though, and eventually his secrets break him down so far he's steps away from falling apart. Wayne sees Ellis deteriorating and wants to take him in hand in order to help him rebuild himself. Wayne's need, no really his desire to help Ellis, sets off a series of events which changes both their lives.

There is a tremendous amount of depth to this book, which is exactly what I expect when I pick up any book from either/both of these authors. I know I'm going to get a well crafted story with characters that are multidimensional and show significant growth throughout the storyline.  I was definitely not disappointed with Before You Break. While there were moments I thought Wayne was a bit over the top for a Dom, I understood where he was trying to go with Ellis. When Ellis goes through his first scene where he finally gets it, well that changes so many things for Ellis. It changes things for Wayne as well because once Ellis opens up and shares all that he's not told him it alters their dynamic from friends to more. I'll leave the rest of the storyline for readers to enjoy instead of getting more detailed. Before You Break is really one of those books that is best experienced as you read it.

The characters are what carry the storylines by this writing duo, and it's something that I really look forward to with every new book. There are quite a few BDSM books in this genre but what sets Collars & Cuffs and now Secrets apart is that the scenes and the sex don't drive the storyline. Now don't get me wrong, I love a hot, sexy sex scene, or an intense BDSM scene but the characters are ultimately what make both of those even hotter. If there isn't a connection to the characters, it's just a series of interconnected scenes that may not have as much impact because you aren't 'IN' the characters lives.

There was everything right about this book, and nothing wrong for this reader/reviewer. I loved Wayne and Ellis, loved seeing my favorites from Collars & Cuffs, and loved the new characters that were introduced as well. I highly look forward to the next book in the series.  Well really I look forward to any book written by either of these authors.

I highly recommend this book, this series, and the previous Collars & Cuffs series as one to pick up and devour.

Author Bio's

Born and raised in the north-west of England, K.C. WELLS always loved writing. Words were important. Full stop. However, when childhood gave way to adulthood, the writing ceased, as life got in the way. K.C. discovered erotic fiction in 2009, when the purchase of a ménage storyline led to the startling discovery that reading about men in love was damn hot. In 2012, arriving at a really low point in life led to the desperate need to do something creative. An even bigger discovery waited in the wings—writing about men in love was even hotter….

K.C. now writes full-time and is loving every minute of her new career. The laptop still has no idea of what hit it… it only knows that it wants a rest, please. And it now has to get used to the idea that where K.C goes, it goes.

And as for those men in love that she writes about? The list of stories just waiting to be written is getting longer… and longer….

K.C. loves to hear from readers.

Happily Ever After Comes With A Price Tag. Parker Williams began to write as a teen, but never showed his work to anyone. As he grew older, he drifted away from writing, but his love of the written word moved him to reading. A chance encounter with an author changed the course of his life as she encouraged him to never give up on a dream. With the help of some amazing friends, he rediscovered the joy of writing, thanks to a community of writers who have become his family. Parker firmly believes in love, but is also of the opinion that anything worth having requires work and sacrifice (plus a little hurt and angst, too). The course of love is never a smooth one, and Happily Ever After always has a price tag.
