Choices and Changes by TM Smith - Blog Tour with Review, Author Q&A and Giveaway

Love - Loss - Friendship - Family
The All Cocks stories

There comes a time in every man’s life where he has to make a choice between what is right and what is easy.

Born and raised in Fort Worth Texas by open-minded parents, Dean Anderson realized early in life he was attracted to both sexes. Equal opportunity, he picked his lovers based on personality and common interests. He met Maggie in college, fell in love, got married and started a family. And they were happy…until they weren’t.

Adam Chase’s mother is South African, his father American military working at the US Embassy in Pretoria, South Africa. His parents’ positions in the South African and American governments awarded Adam dual citizenship, and he attended University in America, at Berkley. In America, Adam is lives openly as a gay man, something that could get him killed in his mother’s home country. He met his husband, Patrick Carter, at college and they too were happy…until Patrick died.

Two lives converge, and it would seem fate is giving them each a second chance at happiness, together. Dean stays in New York and moves into the apartment his son, Dusty, shares with his boyfriend David. He and Adam are quickly welcomed into All Cocks’ vastly growing family. And then one phone call changes everything.

The men of All Cocks learn that death is just another part of life, a road everyone travels eventually. Choices are made, decisions that change their lives irrevocably. They rally together, drawing strength from each other as their close-knit family experiences the best and worst life has to offer. But that’s what families do, right?

Series reading order

4.5 out of 5 stars

Choices and Changes is the seventh book in the All Cocks series. This is very much a series with the books and characters tightly interwoven. I highly recommend reading this series in order for the best reading experience.

I know I probably say this with each new installment in this series, but Choices and Changes has easily become my favorite book in the series. Maybe because the characters are a bit older and while there is a touch of angst in this story, the bulk is focused on Adam and Dean. Both men are in their 40's and have had previous marriages, Dean's ending in divorce, and Adam's as a widower. While they have vastly different experiences behind them, both men are very similar in what they need and want in their lives. Even if neither man was expecting the other at the time they met and started dating...but those are the best kind of surprises.

I really enjoyed that we got to see Dean and Adam's journey from flirty first meet, to first date, to smexy hot first sex, and to a solid long term relationship. There were no games between them, no huge communication issues, no white lies, and they didn't hide things from the other. Adam and Dean were just a refreshing walk through how a relationship should develop, at least for this reader/reviewer. That isn't to say that this book is angst free, there is a crisis toward the end of the book that changes things for Dean and Adam, along with Dean's son Dusty.

There is a lot of story packed into Choices and Changes, and we get to visit with the entire cast from the All Cocks world. I really did enjoy seeing everyone on stage even if it was for short snippets but it was fun to see the couples, and thruples together and happy.

This was a fantastic entry into the All Cocks series, and seeing everyone building the lives and families that they deserve is probably the cake topper to this particular story. I highly recommend Choices and Changes for a devour in one sitting kind of book.

Q&A with Author TM Smith
Part I

Where are you from, and where do you call home?

I was born and raised in Georgia until I was 24. I was born military and married military so when my ex got out of the Army, we moved to Texas and I’ve been here ever since.

What inspired you to start writing?

I love to read, and the more I read fiction and fantasy, I started coming up with different outlandish stories in my head. One day I decided to sit down and try to turn it into something. The rest, as they say, is history.

How long have you been writing?

I started writing Opposites in 2010. So, 7 years now.

What advice would you give a new writer just starting out?

Be very sure that this is what you want to do, because for every fan you find, there will be a hater lingering in the background. Overall, the LGBT writing community is an amazing group of people. There has to be a few bad apples though, and the negativity occasionally hits you where it hurts. You just have to let it roll off and keep going. There is one rule to live by if you want to be an Author, never engage the crazy. Comment and leave praise for those positive reviews all day long. But do not, I repeat, do not comment on a negative review, ever! It never ends well.
