Marc longs for a grand romance, but he doubts he’ll ever be that lucky. Then he meets Darius, an arrogant tailor who pushes all his buttons. When Darius offers him a job, Marc hesitates—he needs a direction for the future, not another man who doesn’t believe in relationships.
Darius lives by a few unbreakable rules: never sleep with employees, fashion should be simple, and romance is for fools. Marc, with his shimmery-sweaters collection, makes him want to break every single one.
They quickly give in to desire, but Darius wants to protect himself and Marc refuses to repeat past mistakes. It’s only when they let go of assumptions, that love has a chance to take hold.
Well-Tailored is a companion novel to the Thorne and Dash series. It can be read as a standalone.
4 out of 5 stars
Well-Tailored is a companion to the Thorne and Dash series by this author but can be read as a standalone book.
I'll admit that I haven't read the previous books in the series and didn't know that this was a companion story until I started to read Well-Tailored. I didn't have any issues connecting to the story or the characters and at no time did I feel lost in the storyline. That being said..I do think that reading the full series will make this a better read. If you've already read the series than dive right into this book.
I really adored Marc, he's an overall fantastic character who lays himself on the line by giving up what was familiar in his life to start working with Darius. He also puts himself on the line by lusting/wanting Darius, even though the other man has pretty much said sex was the only thing on the table between them. That's where my disconnect with Darius starts, unfortunately. To put it simply Darius is an ass, even HE will admit that he's that way. While this does change as the story progresses, Darius is way more of a closed book than Marc is and that made it difficult for me to connect completely with him.
The story is told in alternating points of view so you are in both Darius and Marc's 'head' space. Between the two, though, Marc is much more open with his thoughts and feelings than Darius seems. That could be their age difference, or even down to their life experience, as Darius has been recovering from a bad relationship for a number of years. That ex relationship colors his view on relationships as a whole and makes it hard for him to let anyone close.
Well-Tailored is a good story, with complex characters, and a well paced, well-written storyline. I did enjoy it as a whole but just felt that Darius needed a bit more vulnerability or connect-ability to make him a complete character. Now that is just MY opinion and it didn't by any chance ruin the story for me, I thoroughly enjoyed it in the end. I highly suggest that the readers pick up this story and see for themselves because what works for one reader may not work for the other. In this case what didn't work for me, may not bother most readers at all.
This is a read that I would recommend as something good to pick up and spend some time with, you'll definitely fall in love with Marc, and even Darius.
