From animosity to searing passion in a lunar cycle… but can their bond survive?
Wolf shifter Nathan Kohl’s pack is his whole life. Arrogant and handsome, he avoids commitment to anything or anyone outside of his pack. He works hard, plays hard, and pursues humans as lovers because there’s little to no chance of him forming a permanent bond. However, when Jared Taylor comes into Nathan’s life, every rule is broken.
After a bad experience, Jared vowed to never get involved with another shifter, no matter how much they got under his skin. Despite being physically attracted to Nathan, who’s all kinds of hot, Jared only sees an arrogant, domineering bastard.
A disastrous case of mistaken identity throws Nathan and Jared together until the next full moon. Forced to spend the next twenty-eight days in close proximity, they can no longer ignore the powerful attraction between them. Passion ignites, and their relationship takes a turn neither of them wanted.
But when the full moon comes, everything might change again.

Bitten by Mistake is a new contemporary paranormal by author Annabelle Jacobs.
The shifter world is very different in this story as there are laws in place to stop random creation of new shifters. In order to become a shifter there is paperwork, witnesses and lots of red-tape. It's also illegal to bite a human without their previous written consent. It can cause the shifter to be tossed out of their pack, they can end up in jail or fined, all the way up to a death sentence. And this is where our story gets it's start...
Nathan, our wolf shifter, meets Jared in a bar and tries to pick him up. Jared is totally not having it, even if Nathan is hotter then hell, he refuses to date a shifter after the last one he dated. So jared heads out of the bar and on his way home is 'assaulted' by a different shifter who rubs all over him leaving his scent. A while later Nathan and his squad are attacked by this same shifter and his friends. Nathan takes off after them and ends up tackling Jared who's covered in the other shifter's scent. Nathan ends up biting him but stops as he realizes that who he's bitten is human. Nathan freaks out, hides Jared in his van and covers him in his scent and locks him in his apartment.
There's quite a lot of story after this but it's also a lot of back and forth between Jared and Nathan. I'll be honest in that at first I almost didn't get past the 20% mark of the book. I'm a huge fan of shifter stories, but this doesn't necessarily feel like a shifter story. I did set the story down for a few days, and came back to it with a fresh palate so to speak and after that it worked for me.
It still does read more as a contemporary angsty romance than necessarily a shifter story though. The elements are there though, and the story itself is good. The two main characters are well written but the secondary characters need a bit of depth for me. Now if there is a second book planned that might explain more of the pack, and things like why Alec hates Nathan so much, and a bit more of the world-building to fill out the story for me. I will completely admit to cheering Nathan and Jared on regardless of what was missing in the story because I liked the two of them together once they figured things out.
I do recommend that readers pick this story up because this author is one I regularly read and enjoy. I always recommend that readers pick up a story and form their own opinion of a story because what works for one may not work for another reader and vice versus. So pick up Bitten by Mistake and give it a try.
Annabelle Jacobs lives in the South West of England with three rowdy children, and two cats. An avid reader of fantasy herself for many years, Annabelle now spends her days writing her own stories. They're usually either fantasy or paranormal fiction, because she loves building worlds filled with magical creatures, and creating stories full of action and adventure. Her characters may have a tough time of it—fighting enemies and adversity—but they always find love in the end.
