His Premier by Jessi G - Blog Tour with Review and Giveaway

Book Title: His Premier

Series: Sizzling Miami Book 6

Author: Jessie G

  synopsis

Born into wealth and privilege, Colin Sinclair was raised on the knowledge that money could buy anything and everyone had a price. Trouble was no trouble at all, not when the money was there to sweep it under the rug. But those lessons, learned at the knee of his father, were going to be challenged in a way that would change Colin forever.

In middle class suburbia, Arnaud Dechene learned the value of hard work, focus, and dedication to a dream. He was well on his way to achieving it, the role of Premier, when he catches Colin’s eye. Rich snobs didn’t usually do it for him, but there was something about Colin that made him impossible to resist.

Despite being opposites in every way, falling into a relationship was surprisingly—and deceptively—easy, but Arnaud never lost sight of his dream and Colin had trouble accepting that he was second place to anything. When a stupid argument leads to a reckless act, the repercussions leave Arnaud fighting for his life and Colin paying with his own.

With a little meddling from an aging schemer and intentions that are more well-meaning than realistic, their paths will cross again. However, Colin and Arnaud aren’t the same men who loved with abandon. They are older and wiser, with a history that might be too big to overcome.

Fans of the series know revenge is a double-edged sword, forgiveness doesn't always come easy, and forgetting is damn near impossible. But love...well, that may just conquer all.

4.5 out of 5 stars
His Premier is the sixth book in the Sizzling Miami series and can actually be read as a standalone. For a richer reading experience though you may want to read the other books in the series as those characters make appearances in this book.

His Premier is actually the first book that I've read by this author and it definitely won't be the last. In fact, after reading this one I went and scooped up the rest of the books in the series to squeeze into my reading schedule. I really enjoyed the premise of the over arcing series with the men all living together and helping each other get through life after having such awful things happen in their lives.

This story is a second chance romance with a heavy dose of hurt/comfort on both Colin and Arnaud's past and present. They were each other's first love until tragic circumstances tore them apart and sent Colin to prison for most of his 20's. Now, out of prison, he's learning his new normal but with a very heavy dose of guilt still hanging over him. Colin's family and Arnaud conspire to have Colin see Arnaud dance one of his performances. Instead of helping Colin remove some of his guilt, he feels even worse and considers leaving town and his support network. Arnaud and Colin finally meet on neutral ground again and come to an agreement while Arnaud also offers Colin's company a job redoing a historical building for him. While Colin's inner thoughts are in turmoil he can't push Arnaud away.

The reason this book grabbed my attention at first, is Arnaud's character being a dancer. They are one of my weaknesses as a main character in a book. I wasn't sure what to expect out of the rest of the book but I was very pleased with the storyline and both the main and secondary characters. His Premier is a very well written story but it does jump timelines as it tells the main characters history in a series of flashbacks. While I know this is a sticking point for some readers, the flashbacks are well done and fit into the story perfectly.

The author does not miss a beat with either the backstory or their current re-introduction and the romance that redevelops between them. This is a couple that is meant to be with each other even after eight plus years apart and so many obstacles that could have easily kept them apart even longer. This is one I'd highly recommend to read both as part of the series and as a standalone second chance at love romance. I look forward to reading much more from this author in the future.

Like many readers, the dream of being a writer has been with me a long time. After three decades of trying, I'd begun to doubt. Thanks to social media, I followed my favorite authors hoping to glean some words of wisdom as I pounded out half-formed ideas with alarming regularity. Two repetitive themes emerged: To be a great writer you must read a lot and your butt must be in the chair every day like it's a job. The more you write, the easier it will be to write and the better you will be at writing. I took that advice to heart and write every day. With three series in the works and counting, it's been amazing to have made this dream my reality.

I am a firm believer in marriage equality, love at first sight, power dynamics and happily ever after. I'm a lover of strong secondary characters and series filled with families, biological or chosen. All are themes you'll find throughout my books.

Synopsis: She’s holding out for a happy ever after.

Annie

I know where to find my happily ever after—between the pages of a romance novel. It’s why I sell books, why I blog about them, and why I’ll never get disappointed by love.So what if my brother’s best friend from high school is now a bestselling author? Or that he just blew back into town on a Harley, filling out a pair of jeans like he never did before? Or that he’s agreed to do a signing at my bookstore on such short notice? Because despite all his adoring female fans, I kind of hated his book.

Wes

The last time I saw Annie Denning, she was a senior in high school, three years older than me and way out of my league. Now I’m her last-minute date to a wedding, and what started as a night of pure fun has turned into something more real than either of us anticipated.Annie is my muse. When I’m with her, my writer’s block fades away, and the words finally flow. The only problem? She wants the fairy tale—her very own happily ever after—and anyone who’s read my book knows the truth. I just don’t believe they exist.

Excerpt

She took a step closer, and he inhaled the warm scent of vanilla and, maybe, a hint of cinnamon? He’d been too caught up in the moment to notice before. But now he began to feel drunk, wondering if one glass of wine could knock him on his ass. But he knew it couldn’t have. It was this woman.

He swallowed hard, his throat suddenly dry.

“Jesus you smell good, Annie.”

She leaned closer. Because apparently she was trying to kill him.

“What would the line be—if you wrote it in your book? How would you describe my scent?”

Uh, he could describe the agony of the erection straining against his pants, but somehow he thought she wouldn’t appreciate that.

Christ. Words. She wanted words, now? After he told her he was blocked? But he had to prove his plan would work, that they could use this evening—and each other—to their advantage and neither of them be worse for the wear.

Fine. Words. The girl wanted words, so he would deliver. “He grew drunk,” Wes said. “Drunk on the nearness of her, on the warm, sweet scent of home. Because that’s what she was to him. She was home. And until he kissed her, he hadn’t known what that meant. Home wasn’t a place. It was
a state of mind. It was her, the intoxicating scent of her skin, and his lips pressed against it.”

He hadn’t realized until he spoke the last of it that his eyes were closed. Maybe hers were, too, because she wasn’t saying anything. All he heard was her sharp, shallow breaths. All he felt was his forehead pressed to hers.

How the hell did they get here?

“I think your writer’s block might be cured,” she whispered. “That was way more romantic than an ice
sculpture.”

Wes laughed softly. “I don’t write romance,” he said.

“Whatever,” she countered, but she was still smiling.

“How about your ex situation? That cured yet, or do we want to give them more of a show?”

She cleared her throat. “I think the jury’s still out.”

Okay. They were on the same page—so to speak. He wanted this night, whatever ended up happening, and Annie seemed on the verge of jumping off this cliff with him.

He straightened and took a step back so his eyes could find hers. She chewed her bottom lip.

“One night, Annie. Whatever you want out of this evening, I’m your guy. And when we go home tonight—”

“Tomorrow,” she said, and Wes’s brows drew together. “When we go home—tomorrow…”

"You need to go to Atherton," they said. Easy for them. The higher-ups at headquarters don't have their whole world on the line. When Detective Damon Kelly's bosses send him across the state on a "simple" cyber fraud case, he never thinks he'd meet his mate, then risk losing Kieran by doing his job. No matter what other possible angles Damon works, his partner Grant Davis is sure Kieran's best friend Corey's their guy, and Grant is bent on bringing him in.

After the birth of their Alpha's son, the Atherton Pack needs another beta. Kieran Baxter couldn't be happier to accept. What Kieran doesn't expect is for all hell to break loose his first week on the job. Clashing with his mate at every turn, and fighting a human cop who wants to arrest Corey for hacking a government database, wasn't part of the plan either.

As more evidence piles up, a bigger, scarier picture comes into focus that could threaten not only the Atherton Pack, but everything the world knows.

The Atherton Pack, Book Four

Series Info:

The Atherton Pack
Book 1: Liam
Book 2: Ben
Book 3: Corey

Excerpt:

"I don't like him," Damon's partner, Grant Davis said as he climbed into the passenger side of their rental car. "The guy is guilty as sin. I mean, just look at him." Grant waved a hand back towards the house where Corey stood in the doorway watching them.

Damon sighed. He knew Corey Jones was guilty of hacking the Australian Births, deaths, and marriages database. Unfortunately, he had to try to convince his partner that Corey wasn't the one they were after. How he was going to accomplish that with the way Grant had latched onto Corey was anyone's guess.

Damon started the engine and pulled the car away from the curb. Grant continued to rail next to him about how Corey was their man; Damon tuned him out. His mind stuck on one fact and one fact alone. With the way his body reacted as soon as he stepped into Corey's home, Damon was positive his mate had been there, and thankfully by the masculine scent, it was a man.

His body still thrummed with desire. As much as he hated it, right now Damon was glad Grant had fixated on Corey, as it meant his partner wasn't paying close attention to him. He was also thankful that he was wearing underwear, or his condition would have been a hell of a lot more obvious than it already was.

It had taken everything in him not to question Corey about who else had been in his house. His partner was already suspicious. Damon didn't want to add fuel to the fire. Now all he could think about was ditching his partner and calling Corey to find out who the hell his mate was. The fact his body refused to calm the fuck down convinced Damon his mate had been in Corey Jones's house.

His life had just become complicated beyond measure.

Damon's emotions were all over the place. He couldn't decide if he was happy this had happened or not. Now wasn't exactly the right time for him to be meeting his mate, especially with his partner on the warpath. Damon was here to do a job, and that job was ultimately to arrest Corey Jones. He already knew he couldn't let that happen. He needed to keep his head clear, and finding his mate wasn't going to allow him to do that.

Then again, the idea of sinking deep into the man that was fated to be his, having him writhing in pleasure under Damon as he breached him and bit, marking the man as Damon's for all to see, had his heart racing and his dick aching in seconds. There was no way Damon could explain why he would be all over another guy all of a sudden, which meant he would have to wait until this was all over and could take the time he wanted to get to know his mate.

"Are you even listening to me?" Grant asked sharply, snapping Damon out of his whirling thoughts.

"Sorry, what?" he asked. He hadn't even really been paying attention to where he was driving, which wasn't a smart idea. Luckily, he had driven them back to the Atherton Hotel, where they were holed up. Accommodations in this little town were few and far between if you weren't looking for a tourist hot spot. The hotel sat right on Main Street with a decent pub attached to it.

"Where were you?" Grant asked him. "You completely zoned out."

"Yeah, sorry, just thinking about the case," Damon replied quickly. "Anyway," he continued, not letting Grant say anything, "I'm starving. Feel like a bite to eat?"

"Definitely. We can grab some food, then go over the case again. I really would like another run at Corey Jones."

Damon sighed internally. "Sure. What do you feel like?" They were still sitting in the parked car outside the hotel. They had been eating there for dinner, and he was sure they would be again tonight, so he didn't particularly fancy it for lunch as well.

"Let's drive around and see what we can spot. I don't really feel like the typical fast food though."

"Sounds like a plan to me." Damon put the car in reverse and backed out of the angled park. They slowly drove through town, turning off the main street and heading down the parallel road. They kept their eyes open for anything that caught their attention.

"Oh. How about that place?" Damon motioned to a bakery called Sinful Delights off to the right. His mouth was already watering at the possibilities.

"Hell yes," Grant agreed.

The shop looked to be popular, as all the parking in front was taken. Damon slowed and indicated when he saw someone exit the shop with a bag of goodies and climb into a car. He waited patiently for the man to pull out, and he parked.

"Let's go. I'm starving." Grant rubbed his hands together as they walked the short distance to the shop front.

As soon as they entered, a number of scents hit Damon all at once. Delicious pastries sat in a glass-fronted cabinet. In another, there were fresh rolls and sandwiches already made up ready to go, and behind the counter sat a small warmer with what looked to be homemade pies, pasties, and sausage rolls. Everything smelled incredible.

"Oh yeah. This is what I'm talking about," Grant said as he made his way through the small crowd waiting to be served so he could properly see what was in the cabinets.

Damon let him go. What pulled him up short was the overwhelming scent of wolf.

"This was a bad idea," he muttered to himself. There was no going back now, though. Not that he really wanted to. This place looked and smelled amazing. He just hated that he'd gone to a pack-run business, especially given the reason they were here in the first place. What were the odds in a town of this size that he would wind up here?

Normally Damon always tried to support his fellow pack members wherever possible. With Grant tagging along, though, he didn't want to risk his partner getting more suspicious than he already was.

The jingle on the door was constant with customers coming and going. Damon stepped up behind Grant as his partner placed his order. Anyone would think that man was a shifter with the amount of food he was ordering. Damon had just decided on what he wanted when a man in a forest-green apron stepped up on the other side of the counter. His name tag said Declan.

Their eyes connected, and Declan paused for a moment before he hastily looked to Grant and then back at Damon. He pasted a smile on his face, even though Damon could tell the other man knew exactly who they were and didn't mean the smile in the least.

"Welcome. What can I get for you today?" he asked.

4 out of 5 stars

Kieran is the 4th book in the Atherton Pack series. While Kieran could be read as a standalone, for a richer reading experience I highly recommend reading the previous books. I'll admit that I haven't read the book prior to this one but I wasn't lost at any point in the storyline.

Kieran is a fast paced read which picks up the story of the Atherton Pack after Corey hacks into the government's computers to add their newest pack member into the Births/Deaths Records. Damon and his partner are sent out to find the hacker and bring them to justice. Damon is well aware of who the hacker is but his partner has his eyes set on Corey and does everything he can to catch him. While all this is going on, Damon stumbles on the man who is his destined mate, Kieran. A chance meeting between them happens at a bar and results in Kieran marking Damon.

The road for Kieran and Damon is not smooth, and it leads to a lot of misunderstanding between this new couple. A large part of both their animosity and what leads to the misunderstandings is that they don't know each other. There wasn't a 'getting to know you' period in their relationship because the mark occurred on their very first meeting. Even with their mating link they don't seem to communicate very well. I will say that this frustrated me because they had so many opportunities to discover the other person but didn't take them. Or maybe they didn't think to use those opportunities to know their mate.

There are a series of events in Kieran that affect the entire shifter community and it will be interesting to see how those events shape any future books in this series or in the Holland Brothers series. While Kieran is a high impact book in the series, I just wish there had been more development in the relationship between Kieran and Damon. That really was the only lacking point to the story for this reader/reviewer. While that was a sticking point for me, I highly encourage other readers to see for themselves as what doesn't work for one reader may work for another. So I recommend checking out Kieran as a solid entry into the Atherton Pack series.

COVER ARTIST: Dark Hollow Press

LENGTH: 50,000 words

RELEASE DATE: October 18, 2016

BLURB: “Win the love of the wolf with the hardest heart.”

Faced with eternal banishment to hell, Anubis, god of the underworld, has found a loophole in one of the oldest laws which will allow him to unleash his evil on an unsuspecting human world. Orion’s only hope to stop him is to accept his challenge: send a champion to win the love of the wolf with the hardest heart. It will take someone with a pure heart to soften a closed one, so faced with the threat of losing not only the werewolves, but the destruction of the human race, the gods can only do one thing — send Adam, one of their own.

Adam quickly realizes that the werewolf whose love he must win is Jed.  Wounded after the loss of his wife and son, Jed promised he would never love again or be responsible for someone else’s happiness. Adam has been given a near impossible task.

Anubis is eager to see Adam fail, and unbeknown to everyone takes matters into his own hands to make sure of it. Everything happening now is part of his master plan, and finally it has come full circle.

Even if Adam succeeds and wins Jed's heart, will that love survive when Jed discovers the whole thing was nothing more than a bet? Or when Adam does the one thing he mustn’t and falls in love himself, will he not only break Jed’s heart but completely destroy his own?

Excerpt

Jed gentled his hand as Adam mewled in the back of his throat, both of Adam’s hands surrounding his neck and pressing tightly with an overwhelming urge to simply hang on.

They shared kisses. Shared air. Jed swallowed every reaction from Adam because it was precious. Finally, he wiped his hand and their bodies clean on the sheet and drew Adam in closer.

His heart beat loudly in his ears. Jed didn’t want to think about what they had just done, and let reality intrude on the bliss that seemed to wrap them both up. It wasn’t the whole fucking a guy thing, even though he was still in shock about that. It was the need inside of him, the nameless urge that transcended sex or narrow bigoted views of what made other people happy. In a lot of ways, it wasn’t even the fact that Adam was human and Jed was not.

It was his unshaking doubt that as soon as Jed trusted, as soon as Jed let in a little belief, as soon as Jed started thinking in terms of forever… That’s when it would happen. That’s when his forever would be ripped away. It had with his family. The day his father hadn’t returned from the hunt because of a human’s bullet. The day they’d fled their home because the forest was cleared to make a human town, and his family had no idea how to live in one. The day he was out scrounging for food to fill their empty bellies because it was winter and they should have been warm and safe in their homes, and his little sister had been attacked by a rogue. The rogue had been insane, half-mad with whatever injustice had caused him to attack a pup, and his mom had died trying to defend her.

And then he had trusted once more. Raye had waltzed into his life and danced his objections away. Then it had happened again, as surely as Jed feared it would.

He clutched Adam tighter, knowing his hold wouldn’t last, knowing Adam would be ripped from him like everyone else…

He no longer had any dreams that could be taken from him. He’d accepted long ago that the pack would be his life, but he would go home alone every day. He almost didn’t mind because he knew it wasn’t a matter if Adam would realize he was a pathetic old man and would leave.

It was simply a matter of when.
