Devotion by Grace R. Duncan - Blog Tour with Character interview and contest

Thanks so much to Wicked’s for giving me space today! Let's see what Tanner and Finley have to say today...

  Devotion_headerbanner
What is one physical attribute of yours do you like the most?
Finley tilts his head. I.. don’t know that I have one. My height, maybe. I have to admit it’s fun to keep things out of Kid A and Kid B’s reach. He laughs. Mom had to go buy herself a step stool when I moved in with Tanner because Dad’s at work so much and she can’t reach things like I can.

Tanner grins. Hmmm. I’m thinking… my hair. Finley certainly seems to enjoy playing with it. Though I have to admit, it’s nice that I’m still a couple of inches taller than him. I’m kind of hoping that doesn’t change. Finley rolls his eyes. What? I like being a little taller than you.

Finley shakes his head. Whatever. Maybe I’ll still grow, like, six inches.

Tanner snorts. Not likely.

So, then what one physical attribute would you change?

Finley opens his mouth but Tanner beats him to speaking. If you say your height…

Finley snickers. Now, why would I say that? Tanner simply stares at him. Okay, maybe, but… not in the way you think.

Tanner raises his eyebrows. Oh?

Finley shakes his head. Nope. I wish my height came more from my torso than my legs. I’ve got these ridicously long legs. Which, great, I’m tall, but when I top you…

Tanner blinks, then his eyes widened. Oh! Oh, yeah, I get it. Tanner chuckles. Maybe I could just have a smaller torso?

Finley shakes his head again. No no, I like how you are, thank you.

Tanner looks thoughtful. Perhaps then it’d be nice if I wasn’t quite as… muscular. Our metabolisms don’t let us get fat, per se. But we do often put on muscle. It can make finding clothes that fit a challenge. I don’t even work out. It’s mostly just how I’m built and what we do when in wolf form.

So, a fun one. Boxers, briefs or commando?

Finley laughs. It depends on the day of the week.

Really?

Finley shakes his head. Okay, not really. I’ve been trying to get Tanner to go commando for a while, but—
No way am I letting my boys hang around unprotected. Tanner rolls his eyes when Finley snickers. I prefer them tucked safely away, thank you very much. Boxer-briefs. At worst, I’ll wear briefs, but I prefer boxer-briefs, myself.

Finley grins. Me? I like a little freedom. Especially since he—Finley points at Tanner with his thumb—insists on making me uncomfortable as often as he can get away.

Tanner’s eyebrows go up in obvious fake innocence. Me? That’s not my fault.

Finley snorts. Puhlease. I don’t do it to myself!

Tanner grins. Okay, yeah. I just… look at him. Could you keep your hands off him if he was your mate? Wait, don’t answer that. I’m not sure my wolf would appreciate it…

Thank you again for the space today!

There is also a very special giveaway going on for Devotion. In the story, there are eight references to werewolf movies or movies with werewolves in them. Everyone who can tell me accurately where all eight are (what page) and what the movie is, will be entered to win a signed paperback of Devotion and a Dreamspinner gift card.

DevotionFS  Blurb:

Finley Cooper is tired of waiting. He’s spent the last two years, waiting for his destined mate to be ready to claim him. In deference to human laws, he’s agreed to put it off until he was eighteen. But now he is and his mate has a new set of excuses. Finley doesn’t understand it any more than his wolf does. And Finley’s beginning to wonder if Tanner really wants him or if fate made a mistake. Tanner Pearce wants nothing more than to claim his mate. But Finley’s age worries him. He’ll never forget what happened when his best friend mated at Finley’s age, only to have that mate end up feeling trapped and breaking their bond. While rare, it can happen, and the fallout Tanner witnessed as his best friend tried to deal with the break would haunt him for years. If that isn’t bad, when the future alpha of the Forbes pack claims his mate, it’s traditionally a public event. Neither Tanner’s nor Finley’s parents understand Tanner’s reticence over either issue, but Tanner is sure claiming Finley this soon is a recipe for disaster. However, Finley has had enough and when Finley threatens to find someone who will claim him if Tanner doesn’t, Tanner realizes he’s going to have to come to terms with his fears or risk losing his mate forever.

4.5 out of 5 stars

If you haven't read Grace Duncan before, well this is the book to read, especially if you love shifters.

Tanner and Finley are true, fated Alpha mates who meet when Finley is, in Tanner's eyes, too young to complete the mating. Tanner's bad experience with a friend's relationship colors his perception of how Finley will handle mating so young. In their shifter culture, when they met, they could have legally mated even with Finley only 16 but Tanner pushes it off. In his mind it's to save Finley from feeling trapped or without options for his future. Finley, however, doesn't see it that way. Finley questions if Tanner really wants him if he can so easily set their relationship aside for so long. That leads Finley to wonder if something is wrong with himself that Tanner doesn't want the mating.

The author has created a new shifter mythology in this first book of the series. So there is a decent amount of world building along with backstory on the characters. The characters and world building really drive this story from the first word, and I am all about the characters driving a story. And for me, both aspects worked well in this story to create the conflict and provide the solution along with keeping me entertained through the whole book.

I really liked both main characters, even if there were times I wanted to throttle Finley for acting immaturely. I understand where the need to prove to himself his worth and that he was desirable. It was his methods of going about it that almost proved Tanner's point to allow him to grow up more, valid. There were also times I wanted to smack Tanner in the back of the head for not telling Finley how he felt though. Because by not sharing that with Finley it caused him to act immaturely. In the end things work out but some miscommunication could have been avoided just by them talking to each other. I know...I know that's a HUGE concept, right?

Overall this was a solid, strong first book in a new paranormal romance series. You should definitely try this one if you love shifters or paranormal romance!

Grace Duncan grew up with a wild imagination. She told stories from an early age – many of which got her into trouble. Eventually, she learned to channel that imagination into less troublesome areas, including fanfiction, which is what has led her to writing male/male erotica.

A gypsy in her own right, Grace has lived all over the United States. She has currently set up camp in East Texas with her husband and children – both the human and furry kind.

As one of those rare creatures who loves research, Grace can get lost for hours on the internet, reading up on any number of strange and different topics. She can also be found writing fanfiction, reading fantasy, crime, suspense, romance and other erotica or even dabbling in art.
